A47921817 - A Devillish Affair
UnderGuide Editors Posted May 19, 2009
I'd like to second all of the above... because this has been selected for inclusion in the UnderGuide, as with all the best writing that even dips a toe in the AWW, in no matter how teasing a fashion Many congratulations Danny!
Not only that, but it's our March Gem of the Month!
You've already heard from The Stretcher judges and one of them...
(See how carefully I've preserved the necessary aura of anonymity and mystique there?)
... saw fit to add the following when QAing it for us:
"There are certain pieces of writing that will change a reader's mood. There's also a quality indication in how many times this magic works. Some pieces are eternal (Lovelace's Althea and Donne's Song right up there for me, should anyone be interested). To work even once, though, writing has to be exceptionally good. This piece has quite a long use-by date. And look, I mentioned it in the company of greatness. It's still a 10."
There seems to be unanimity on this thread that this does work as a stand-alone piece - but if you're still not sure about that, we are planning to drop a link to The Stretcher in the UG version, so readers will get that background too.
Many congratulations again!

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
