I think this has gone on too long.
If you have a 1 and a 3 Kilo weight you can weigh any amount up to 4 Kilos. If you add a 9 Kilo weight you can now get 5,6,7,8,9,10 etc up to 13 Kilos. To get 14 kilos you only need to add a 27 Kilo weight and you can now weigh any amount from 1 Kilo up to 40 Kilos.
The answer is that you only need 4 weights. 1,3 9 and 27 Kilos.
Now for an easy one. Pedantic should find it too easy and he may decide to let others have a go at it first.
A man died and left £90,000 to be shared equally between his children.
How much did each get? I want to know the reason for your answer.
An amount without any reason given is not acceptable.

That's a little unfair. He could have had 2 children, which means each of them got £45,000 each (which, incidentally would be my guess: reason being, anyone with more than 2 kids will have difficulty getting and keeping that amount of money.)
He could have 3 children, which means each gets £30,000 each.
He could have 4 children, which means each gets £22,500 each.
He could have 5 children, which means each gets £18,000 each.
He could have 6 children, which means each gets £15,000 each.
Etc, etc...

I think his fortune went to his 2 children, who each got 45,000pounds. My reason, You did mention children in plural.

£45,000 to each of the two of them.
Between : preposition, adverb
1 in or into the space which separates two places, people or objects:
Cambridge
If there had been three or more children it would have been ‘equally among’. However, if it had been $90,000 it would be impossible to say as ‘there is a persistent but unfounded notion that between can be used only of two items and that among must be used for more than two.’

Am I the only one thinking that an average man in possession of £90,000 at the end of his life is unlikely to have had any children? Or am I just being too pessimistic?

P.D.S. is correct. Your turn.
P.S. Now that you have the answer to my previous question you will know why my clue was, to "think progressively". The answer was an arithmetical progression.

Assuming you mean PBS:
A man wakes up one morning, looks out of his window, and knows that he has caused the deaths of many people. How does he know?

P.B.S. Typing error. I will sack my typist.
Could your man be a Lighthouse Keeper? When he woke up he realised that he had not put the light on and a ship had crashed into the rocks.

If I had known that we could use previous posts over and over again, PBS, I would have done so. That lighthouse idea was mine. You just shortened it.

Thanx czar.
Almost everyone needs it, asks for it, gives it, but almost nobody takes it. What is it?
