Emmily ~ Roses are red, Peas are green, My face is a laugh, But yours is a scream Posted Dec 10, 2004
I was hoping no-one would suggest that, as far as I'm aware is not acceptable in EGs which is why I didn't attempt to use it.

We;;, I've used it several times. (No reason why it shouldn't be used as it's 'hidden; from the reader - except in 'effect')

I remember being ask to replace s in my first submitted entry, that was because there was something more suitable I could use, maybe I misunderstood that.
Another question or two
I've found a nursery ryhme, involving a robin and a cat, would there be copyright issues in using it in entry?
And same question about using the full version of 'Who killed cock robin'?

Well, I've used on heaps of entries and not been pulled up for it And it's in the GuideML instructions, so it must be ok
Surely 'Who Killed Cock Robin' is Trad Arr? Oh, I mean, it's a traditional piece, without a specific source for copyright. Most nursery rhymes would be the same I'd think.
The person to talk to about copyright is Master B, come to think of it. He co-ordinated the Billy Joel/We Didn't Start the Fire project earlier this year and I recall him muttering/ing about copyright at one stage

Gnomon - time to move on Posted Dec 11, 2004
It's ok to use to move to the start of a new line in a poem, as there isn't any other way to do it. What's not acceptable is to use it to space out paragraphs and headers.
Poems and songs are out of copyright (the copyright has expired) if the author died before 1924. So you're certainly safe to put in traditional nursery rhymes, but you'd have to check when the author died for any other poem.

Sorry, I should've checked here A264520 before asking.
But, I shouldn't have to use it in this situation. should have separated the text as I wanted it, as it did in my last Entry A3152576
I've added a rhyme using and still it has not separated the text as I believe it should have.
I know I can be a bit dim at times but I can't understand how a 'tag' works one way in one entry, and not in another.

The Blockquote tag causes the quoted text to be on separate lines, and indented, but it doesn't separate it from the previous text and following text. That's done by Paragraph tags. So you could put and around the Blockquote to be sure.

Oh. I see what you mean.
Your robin entry is behaving the way I thought the BLOCKQUOTE tag should work. I can't understand why the Marriage Customs entry worked at all. I always end each line in a Blockquote with a .

Have just read using added s
If that's how they're meant to be used I'm baffled about my other entry too.

i had a poem in my Entry omn 'Comets....'. My recollection is that I used blockquopte around the whole poem and at the end opf each line. It was only when writing this Entry that s'one informed me of the line ending tag.

There is still s'thing very minor bugging me, which I can't quite 'put my finger on'. It's to do with just WHY the robin is such a popular and recognisable icon of Christmas.
Anyway, regarding .
It would make the association stronger if you said something like,(for the second sentence) "They were delivered by postmen wearing bright red (scarlet?)tunics and so these postmen became known as 'robins' or 'redbreasts', and so the image on the Christmas card came to represent the postman who delivered it2.

P.S. I was wondering whether the title shouldn't be 'The Robin Redbreast', as this is how the British'European robinb is popularly known, and gives more of an excuse for including the iconography of Christmas/postmen?

Excellent Entry, Emmily... There is still s'thing very minor bugging me...Jeez make your mind up man haven't you got homework to mark or something teach
Seriously, I'm not too happy with that first para. I'll take a look at it later, see what I can do, not awake enough yet.
Though, I think I'll keep the title as it is.
