Entry: The Royal Shakespeare Company - A21648693
Author: lil ... ACE/Scout -- {Auntie Giggles}~ ~ [still with added Matt] - U551837

This was meant to be part of my Uni Project, but I seem to have stalled.

I think the Guide has a better use for it.

Thanks Webby smiley - hug

I must have only just completed the Entry when those changes were brought in smiley - rolleyes

I have added a paragraph, blockquote and a link. I hope this will suffice until we can perhaps write an Entry on the newly restored Royal Shakespeare Theatre, after its opening.

Good entry, lil, very interesting.

A few things I found:
smiley - jesterFemale roles were played by boys either apprenticed to the companies, or began their careers as Children of the Royal Chapel.smiley - jester

This is unclear. Do you mean *who* either apprenticed....

smiley - jesterAt this time, the company performed at the Theatre. Built at Shoreditch in 1576, by James Burbage. smiley - jester

I think this would be better as one sentence, the second sentence is incomplete otherwise.

smiley - jesterThis was an open air amphitheatresmiley - jester

I thought an amphitheatre was *always* an open air theatre?

smiley - jesterdisbanded, his player son, Richard, quicklysmiley - jester

Not sure, do you mean his son, who was a player?

smiley - jesterBecoming the leading theatrical company in London. smiley - jester
This sentence is not complete.

smiley - jester...under the royal patronage of King James I, then later Charlessmiley - jester

I think this would read better as: then later *under* Charles I I

smiley - jesterthe 'Royal Shakespeare Theatre' closed it doorssmiley - jester - its doors

Lil, this bit is still a bit clunky:

smiley - biroFemale roles were played by boys who either apprenticed to the companies, or began their careers as Children of the Royal Chapel.

I think this might be better, up to you:

smiley - biro Female roles were played by boys either apprenticed to the companies, or beginning their careers as Children of the Royal Chapel.

Biro> Alternatively - Female roles were played by boys who were either apprenticed to the companies, or beginning their careers as Children of the Royal Chapel.

"Being one of the most famous theatre companies in the world, the Royal Shakespeare Company - also known as the RSC - is a relatively modern company." Should there be a "despite" at the beginning, there?

Could you specify when you first mention James Burbage that he was Richard Burbage's father?

I'm a bit confused about the King's Men. Shakespeare was involved with them and with the Chamberlain's Men?

At the minute, the entry seems to be more about historical theatrical troupes than about the RSC itself. I'd like to see a mention of the Swan Theatre and of the London seasons, and maybe mention a few of the famous stars who've appeared in the RSC's productions. (David Tennant, Patrick Stewart, Laurence Olivier etc etc).

Good job. smiley - smiley

>>"Being one of the most famous theatre companies in the world, the Royal Shakespeare Company - also known as the RSC - is a relatively modern company." Should there be a "despite" at the beginning, there?<<

= Done smiley - ok

>>Could you specify when you first mention James Burbage that he was Richard Burbage's father?<<

= I think I’ve managed to cover that better on the second mention of James Burbage smiley - erm

>>I'm a bit confused about the King's Men. Shakespeare was involved with them and with the Chamberlain's Men?<<

= I have altered the beginning of the ‘Chamberlain’s Men’ slightly, the King’s Men already included the fact that they were theatrical companies and run under the patronage of either the Lord Chamberlain, or the King, James I (I hope it now look clearer) smiley - smiley

>>At the minute, the entry seems to be more about historical theatrical troupes than about the RSC itself. I'd like to see a mention of the Swan Theatre and of the London seasons, and maybe mention a few of the famous stars who've appeared in the RSC's productions. = Ah, this is were it shows those areas which would have been covered more fully within the Uni Project.

I shall sort something out on those immediately smiley - run

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
