Now, how have we missed reporting on this world-wide known holiday?

It's a mystery .
I now know a good deal more of Mexico's history than I did before - had to find out what ws going on underneath this .
"En Salada:"

Interesting! I guess sometimes the best route to educating is the indirect route!?
Thanks for reading! You never know if you'll get much traffic here in the AWW.

Thanks!
Pity you didn't see this while you were in France. I'd have been interested in their side of the story.

Hey, LLLwaz, as you were interested in the historical perspective of the piece, I added a section on the result of the resistance to the French, under "Spoiled Mayo".
Just FYI,

Cheers . What a horrible mess!
The French picked up the idea and still do this, of course. Least excuse, French truckers and farmers start hurling food about at blockades at the Ferry Ports and autoroutes. Interesting to see how it all started.

I was reading this again, and enjoying it again . Did you have the Yucatan bit there before? I didn't remember it. It deserves flan throwing but there's enough abuse of food here already.
Btw, in revising, I think you've maybe got yourself two 'country's a bit too close together in the last but one paragraph.

FordsTowel Posted Aug 23, 2006
Hail and welcome again, LLLwaz!
I do believe you're right. The Yucatan bit did come a bit after the rest. I guess I thought I'd had it in there before the last time I suggested you give it a re-read
True, flan throwing may be mildly excessive, but you can toss me en salada!
Thanks for the tip. I shall immediately check out my spacing!

I have to offer you Fords Towel - on another entry of yours being picked for the <./>underguide</.>.
This will get a well deserved spot on the Front Page.
You know the process so I'll skip that and say that, as I've said with other selections this month, it's been read and enjoyed by more than have posted here.
Thank you for posting it, and for what was referred to in offsite comment as perverse interpretation of a good approximation to the fact. I call it classic hootoo and thanks again.

GEE THANKS!
It's nice to know that a humble entry like this can entertain and enlighten!
Hmm, Can I quote that comment on the dustjacket?

Hi FordsTowel
I'm polishing your gem at A14197917. You can pop over and have a look at it to make sure I haven't done it any harm. Mostly I've just removed a few errant commas.
I had a couple of questions about your entry, though. I know this is a work of fiction, so if these are items you don't wish to address that's fine.
Assuming that Cinco de Mayo falls on 5th May, it wouldn't fall between US Mother's and Father's days. US Mother's day is the second Sunday in May, so never earlier than the 8th.
Is your spelling of Massachusetts intentional?

FordsTowel Posted Sep 8, 2006
Welcome, dear broelan, to my bit of insanity!
GREAT JOB on the piece!
I much appreciate the heads up. The date thing was a sly implication that those who chose the date just screwed up; but, you're right, it doesn't come across. Perhaps you could change that to read:
'was placed between Easter and the U.S. Mother's Day,'
and:
'so it helped balance things out a bit.'
If it's possible, please also replace the current version of this paragraph with this one;
'Spain and England backed off, whilst France attempted to send a military leader from Austria to take possession of this middle-America gem. Their plan was to force the Mexicans to purchase high quotas of Mayonnaise in one-fifth of a French Imperial Gallon (FIG) jars, padded with taxes and import/export fees, until the Mexican economy completely folded, and the salsa mines ran completely dry. They could then take the country without firing a shot.'
Yes, the misspelling of MA was a reflection of the problems I hear people have with pronunciations of the state's name.
Thanks again, for all your attention to detail!

I have to apologise about the date thing. Having spent too much time wearing my pedant hat in Peer Review, the devil made me point it out. Re-reading it in the manner it was intended it does come across, and I think that taken in the spirit of the rest of the piece, the majority of people who aren't me will get it straight-away . I've left it as you wrote it originally.
The other paragraph I've changed as you requested.
See what you think now.

Absolutely fantastic! And, thanks again for being so helpful!
Do you think it requires some external links? Anything come to mind that might prove less than useful?
I drool in anticipation.
PS: Actually, I can't drool, my Sirian terrycloth keeps soaking it back up.

Handy to have, that terrycloth. I wonder do they make bibs out of it? Would be right useful for teething toddlers.
Links for Alternative pieces is always a little tricky. Sticking with Edited entries for links would drag the spirit of the writing down, I think, and using unedited entries is a little riskier - you never know when the author might decide to pull them. Unless there's a specific entry or site you'd like to draw attention to, in my opinion it's best to leave them out.
I'll send this back off to the eds then and let them know it's ready, unless there's anything else?
