Welcome back to h2g2, Phantom Observer.

It isn't really the done thing on h2g2 these days to just use other people's entries as a basis for your own - unless you pick them up from the <./>FleaMarket</.> or you have asked for their permission.

If you're going to do it anyway, you should at least credit them.

You should also read all the conversations at the bottom of the entry in question - particularly the most recent. If you'd read this conversation:
F75363?thread=140839&latest=1
then you'd have seen that I picked this entry up from the <./>FleaMarket</.> and am working on a new version at A1060462.

On the other hand, life's too short to complain and I haven't made any progress working on it myself, so I'm very happy to hand any rights to it that I might have had over to you!

The only requests I have are that you click on the above conversation and post there to inform the original author what's happening - and that you give them a credit to the original author - Ila, researcher 36536.

If you'd like any further advice, just shout.

Cheers,
Number Six

My apologies for -- er -- poaching on your territory. It's just that the entry at A1060462 looked to be extremely bare bones, and I knew that there was a lot more information out there. I've amended my proposed entry as per your request.

I'd also mention that you are encouraged to put your personal details in the front of the book should it get lost.

I've been using moleskin for years (especially when making the holiday programmes) as they are inocuous yet useful - a rare combo.

I never use the lined notebooks, I always opt for the plain as it allows me to sketch and/or write.

Did I not cover this in the last tip in the entry?

I also like the plain notebooks, but I've got a couple of square-ruled ones for work purposes (I sometimes have to do graphic work).

Hi, Phantom Observer!

The best way to credit another researcher as a co-author is this:
-Click on the Edit Entry link
-When you get an Update Guide Entry page, scroll down until you see a section called Edit the Researcher List
-Then type in the researcher number of your co-author.

When you update the entry, the other researcher will appear as the author and you will appear as the editor, but when the entry is edited you appear as co-authors.

I really like this entry. I'm curious about the name Moleskine -was this just a French version of the English word Moleskin? As a kid, I read a book that had a character in a moleskin waistcoat, and I spent years feeling very sorry for the poor little moles, until someone told me that moleskin is just a type of heavy cotton! I think it would be worth giving the origin of the name, if you know it.

Thanks for the tip re: user credit. I also was able to confirm your theory of the French spelling of moleskin by looking it up at YourDictionary.com, and amended the first paragraph to mention the origin.

Erm, I noticed the conversation thread in the entry itself questioning the accuracy of some of the information in the entry. I've looked at the website mentioned in the thread and I have to agree that the entry appears to contain some inaccuracies.

Is there a revision in the works in light of this?

Cheers!

Hmmm... it appears I should have done a little more surfing, too. smiley - doh

However, you can take solice in the fact that I think I've been looking for something like this for years without realizing it and now I'm going to buy some off the 'net.

I do have some revisions planned in order to talk more about the overhyping on Modo and Modo's official website (i.e. the so-called literary/artistic pedigree).

However, in the end of the Conversation the poster started to get abusive, which in my eyes damaged the credibility of his assertions re the physical description of the notebook.

Yes, I noticed that the conversation was degrading and that one of the messages was actually hidden, but in all of those messages are some points that are probably valid nonetheless. smiley - erm

So, can I just check, is this a proposed rewrite of an existing entry?

A1092458 - Moleskine notebook

Post 15

It's a rewrite of an entry rather than an edited guide entry - I'd picked it up from the Flea Market but not done anything with it, PhantomObserver had picked it out of the guide, did a rewrite and submitted it to PR, at which point I relinquished all claims!

I have managed to complete the revisions. I've given some background on the Modo and Modo claims, and after looking up what "oilcloth" actually was I've re-worded the description to address the other concerns.

It's looking quite good... almost ready to go, I think. smiley - ok

It might be worth mentioning how to pronounce the word moleskine. It is mol-a-skeen'-a (ref: http://www.moleskinenotebook.com)

When I called a local stationer yesterday to see if they stocked it, they repeated it bad to me as "mole skin". smiley - shrug

Done. I've added the pronunciation information into the first paragraph, and moved the oilcloth information to the first sentence to increase clarity.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
