When she found herself lost in the city
And hadn't much left in her kitty

(sorry, no new line - I hate replying to myself! But I've just noticed that the Limerick thread in Mornington Crescent has been closed. Anyone know why? Only 510 posts - no breaking of house rules that I can see.)

Jane, Any MC thread that reaches 500 posts is liable to be summarily bonged, it's just a question of when Anna notices it. However, there are still five live limerick threads (not counting the Stand Alone one) which is more than enough.

It certainly helps to be pretty.

Had three dogs all of different breeds
When they intermingled,
Extremities tingled,
And the fleas on their bodies, all flead.

There was a young couple from Omsk,
Whose parents were all born in Tomsk
[retiringviolet - I don't get the apparent "dig" about Edward Lear. Enlighten me please]

There was a young couple from Omsk,
Whose parents were all born in Tomsk
They said Tomskis so pretty,
I'm new to this site, that was a rhyme to a previous limerick, that I thought was the ongoing one. Sorry.

They said Tomskis so pretty,
And the residents are witty,
[no hassle, retiringviolet. Welcome!]

They said Tomsk is so pretty,
And the residents are witty -
What on earth made us move to Omsk?
I'm emulating Lear there by using the same word to finish the fifth line as was used to finish the first.
This is normally to be frowned upon, but then so is the malicious intent evidenced by the choice of 'Omsk' in the first place.

You spoke to harshly to the kid
[IMHO - not fair to call her "malicious" if she's just joined in - oh, unless you two have "history", as they say]

I thought Omsk might be a bit of a challenge!

You spoke too harshly to the kid
Harm was not my intent
All right then, I repent
Too much of a challenge IMHO, rv. You're not the only one on the BBC boards who likes to start off with an 'impossible' rhyme, but it doesn't strike me as being a productive approach to Limerick writing. I guess I'm just an old stick-in-the-mud. And too easily irritated.

i'm so sorry I did what I did.
But Omsk sounds so lovely.

"But Omsk sounds so lovely", she said,
Though it may be that she's been misled
