I believe the speed of dark is the same as the speed of light if you apply all physical principles.
And I don't think they meant Ned Flanders...I think it's a much older reference

Not really. But it works the other way round actually.
"Old Ned" is a traditional English euphemism for the devil.
Google search 'Devil Euphemisms' if you don't believe me.
So that's why the 'NED Flanders' character is also the devil.
And of course it's why Flanders, the 'religious guy' on the Simpsons, was named 'Ned'.
