>> *Ghosts* has 6 letters yet *them* = plural, hmmm... <<
The vagaries and inaccurancies of English as spoken in various parts of the real and cyber worlds may be at the root of your confusion six7s.
Consider this example:
Me: I jus' seen a ghost.
U: Oh I don't believe in them.
Me: I only seen one!
U: Y'mean there's more than one?
Me: Prodably.
U: Or maybe if y'seen one y'seen 'em all.
Sorry I can't better articulate how this minor corruption of grammatical logic could lead to grievous syntactical errors. I know how you must be suffering, but the plural answer 'ghosts' seemed appropriate even if the question was probably thinking of only one and then mysteriously multiplied in the asking.
Ot, then again it could be that some people only have five fingers and can only count that high. I do thank everyone for adding the letter count of their word. It doesn't make 'them' any easier but it sure eliminates a lot of wrong answers.

except when someone posts the wrong (number)
my pedanticism comes out of several long and involved puzzle breaking sessions, finally giving up only to find out that the clue had been given incorrectly
even though this hasn't happened for several pages, i'm still a bit nervous about the whole thing (and now that i've written this i'm expecting i'll be the next person to post incorrectly)
as its my week for being pedantic
(1)barely there, only if you believe in them (5)
wouldn't it be better as
(1)barely there, only if you believe in it (5)
with the answer as 'ghost'?
lefthanded btw

Sorry to have caused such a fuss... I haven't been feeling the best and didn't really mean to make it plural. I'll try to be more careful in future . Will and or make things better?

BTW I don't know where the L for telepathic came from either but everything else seemed to fit so I went for it.

i wouldn't worry about it Ythika. you haven't been the first and i'm sure you won't be the last.
*mumbles with mouth full* thanks for the cake
it would be nice if people checked their clues before posting though

Okay then... I'll keep it sorta simple because I may not be back for a while if the wind doesn't stop howling soon.
