i agree
*resisting the urge to go for the dictionary cos there are so many words beginning with 't'*
even clarifying the clue might help. what's with the [ ] ? and i assume archaic is part of the clue, not a sign that the answer is archaic?

~ jwf ~ scribblo ergo sum Posted Feb 25, 2003
Yeah, the only 'dictionary' associated word starting with a 't' that came to mind was 'thesaurus' which only has (9) letters and is hardly archaic. Y'see I took that part of the clue to mean the word was an archaic name for dictionary. Who knows maybe it is....

OK... embarrassing apology time...
For the life of me, I can't remember what the answer is and yes, it's because the clue (just the one word - archaic) is so ing obscure
So, I'll try again
EFt
(1) ... And forgive us our obfuscations,
As we forgive those who obfuscate against us...

"EFt (thank heavens for dictionaries)
(1) [as if I could use any more ] archaic (11) "
its the [brackets] that have thrown me. why not ( ) ?

Of course I thought that 'as if I could use any more ' was referring to dictionaries...
Oh dear...
So now it's a 10 letter word starting with 't' that brings to mind some form of 'Obfuscation' in a Biblical (10 Commandments/Golden Rule) 'setting' then is it... ?
Why do I think it's still the same word and he just counted it differently this time...
We may have to have a new rule that words beginning with only (1) given letter can not be more than so many letters or syllables long. As kea suggests, the 't' section of the dictionary is quite thick. And I suspect a connection to obfuscation could be made for thousands of them ..not all 10 letters long of course...

Fer cryin' out loud...
*this* clue is *not* cryptic, merely a simple (as in ?) find and replace... surely the quote is one of the most widely known in the countries of all regular contributors...
Or are you just winding me up in retaliation?
Nuff

Must be the numbing cold of the Great White North slowing my brain.
Of course it must be:

me, you're right, it is quite simple (like me)

this seems to make sense, although having very little LoTR knowledge I guess it could be very wrong

bregalad was the 'hasty' ent aka quickbeam (ents are sentient trees that can move around). most ents are slow and take a very long time doing things. hence the nice thought of quickbeam doing hiphop or rap
aragorn's folk were the 'men' in the book (compared to elves, hobbits, orcs etc)

Do I need to post a clue? It's actually a pretty easy one if you look at it the right way. (that was a statement, not a clue.

Right on Ythika, it shoulda said 6. It's the trouble I have with having only five digits on the one hand. On the other hand, I have five more. Neither hand has six and it proves somewhat limiting. Good on ya for taking the initiative
Your word is
onomatopoeia
(1) this counted long before computers (6)
*dictionary .com said there is a three letter word 'eia' but it wanted me to sign up for the 'Premium edition' before it would tell me. Another online dictionary service that scans all other dictionaries said it found 232 listings for 'eia' and linked to each of their homepages but none of them would tell me what 'eia' is without registering for deeper access. So I went with a word using just the 'a'.*
