All right, but apart from knowldege, sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what has science ever done for us?

Um, i guess having a goal would sooner or later lock you in a defined path and blind you. Science is as far as i know about first finding paths and finding out where they lead; not fixing a destination and trying to find a path to it.

I fully agree with you Lord Sieg!
Science is wondering how things work, where they come from, 'what makes them tick'... and isn't it wonderful to wonder???
It is of course important to have some approach to getting answers to your questions, of course, but as we all know: every answer only generates more questions!
So as to a goal... no way, nothing we'll ever reach. All we can do is strive to increase our knowledge of the world, life, the universe, and everything...!
Gosh, saying all this suddenly makes me so happy to be a scientist!

I am of the opion that science is the studey of why.
Why things work
why things move why they act in that way
the what when and how are mearly ther to help understand the why
I sapose the bigest why is why are we hear [no one mention 42 ]The ulta1mate gole for science is to fuley understand everything the "why".
