Please don't say that... the three of us have only just recovered from one of those, and Mr Vip is still off work recuperating.

I've also started using the shower... I figured, why use perfectly clean water for a flush, when I still need to run the shower a bit before the water turns warm enough? And as B4 says, it's not like you're standing in it, it drains directly out.
When I was little, and my family visited my grandparents on their farm, we often stayed in the "side building". A small little "apartment", originally for the older generation of the family, bedroom, kitchenette no longer in use. And no bathroom. Fine, in the summers, it was easy enough to stick your toes in the clogs and toddle over to the main building, but in the freezing winter? Not so much fun when you're little and *need* to go immediately. So we learned how to use the floor drain in the old laundry room just across the little hall, and how to flush clean after. And then, always, wash.

Hypatia, you had me at "the geneaology department toilet." Is there a philosophy toilet? A self-help department toilet?
I am very tired right now and need to get some sleep, but tomorrow I'll tell you about something wonderful that happened today.

In general boyishness - never go down on gear! - I was quite happy on my approx-weekly bike ride to work this morning whan I clicked on to my bike: new SPD pedals and shoes
Haven't had "decent" pedals for a few years, but last week I stumbled over an offer I couldn't make myself turn down - basically got pedals + shoes + a pedal wrench for a little less than the regular price of the shoes.
Also got me a few raised eyebrows when I walked across the company with my shoes in one hand over to the maintenance guys to borrow an Allen key so that I could adjust the cleats a little bit forward.
Should make the ride home even a little more technologically

One of the things I'm going to be doing with my time off over winter is rebuilding my old Shimano prototype, from back when push button gears were first tried out. I've got a new tool kit with the specialist tools I need, and will have the time to do it

Santra, I went to clipless pedals about 18 years ago and won't ride anything without now. I use Sidi Dominator 5 shoes, and shimano half platform, half clipless pedals on my 29er. If it would cool off a little I could go for a ride or ten. I do not like to ride when it's over 90F.

*Also awaiting good news*
Went to PaperKid's new school last night for Parents' Night, and she's doing great (as far as can be told the first week of school) Her new best friend is also new to the school, and their teacher said she thought they'd known each other from elsewhere, since they are so close already. Evidently, they look a bit alike, and H's mom's name is also Amy
I of course had to ask about the names of H's dad and little sister (yes, she has a little sister, too), but PaperKid didn't know.
Despite the fact that Notepad's preschool is at the same school I work at, I don't know the teacher's perspective of how she's doing (though I do know Notepad is thoroughly enjoying it--I can actually get her hair brushed with minimal fuss by telling her she has to have it brushed to go to school--and of course it's much easier when it's brushed every day). When PaperKid was in preschool, her and my schedule meshed in such a way that I was able to chat with the teacher as I signed her out each day, but I've a different schedule now, so Tom picks her up (and he's picking her up when everyone else is being picked up, as well) and since the preschool is its own little world within the school, I don't run into the preschool staff much. But I'll get that figured out.
PaperKid's schedule meshes really well with both Notepad and my schedules--she starts school half an hour after Notepad does, and ends school half an hour after I get off work. Even if the car were to die at the school Notepad and I are at, you'd have to walk slowly backwards, and maybe get a little lost, to take that long to walk between the two.

*floats in followed by Matina, who is pushing a cart with fresh cinnamon buns, coffee and tea*
Yesterday, just after lunch, a parcel was brought in to the room, and it was for me. I had been told that one was on the way, and I was expecting a sort of stocking stuffer of a box, tech odds and sods, or tea and shortbreads or that kind of thing.
What it in fact was, was a Toshiba Satellite with a 17" screen, 4 GB of RAM and super graphics. The reason I haven't been here earlier is because of updates, downloads and exploration. Windows 8 -- need I say more? I spent a good bit of time slapping unnecessary tiles into oblivion; that start screen is nothing but a shopping mall.
Well, the person responsible for this wondrous gift is our Pastey, with collaboration from Witty. I am almost lost for words to express my thanks.
And just as I was admiring the new arrival, my aide for evening shift arrived bearing a krispy kreme glazed doughnut, something I haven't had in YEARS. . Things are looking up.

That is totally awesome!
Our centennial celebration continues tonight. We are up to the 1960s. It should be a fun but busy day for me.
Wishing everyone a great weekend.

I have a philosophy on that decade;
If you can remember the 60's - you wasted them!
Certainly was an interesting road from the Kennedy-Nixon election to Woodstock.

I bought a new toy today. A Diablo. Lets see how many (electric) bulbs I can break before I'm banned from using it inside...

What's a diablo, and why would it break lightbulbs?
I see I have some work to do on my website. Everything looked fine on the netbook, but it's a hot mess on the Big Screen. Did I mention that the new laptop's name is Eddie?
