Just Bob aka Robert Thompson, plugging my film blog cinemainferno-blog.blogspot.co.uk

Really dark humour doesn't get enough love. I was thinking about it recently, and it's almost impossible to explain how - for instance - murder can be funny without it sounding awful, and yet it can, and we have all seen it.
So, ITT your favourite blackly humourous films, books, TV series, songs, comics, whatever!

I'll start off with the first that comes to mind.

_Grace Quigley_

Katherine Hepburn blackmails hit man Nick Nolte into killing her, oh and a few of her elderly female friends also want him to kill them.

Oh, and looking over at my bookshelf Edward Gorey and Charles Adams work always struck a chord in me.

The Guard (with Brendan Gleeson and Mark Strong...)

IIRC that was full of black humour

I'd say if Brendan Gleeosn is in a movie, chances are there will be some black humor. "In Bruges" is another example with him in it. Or "The Guard," where Gleeson plays a character who is criticized for racism, but explains that he is Irish, and racism is part of his heritage. smiley - laugh

Ooh!

I just saw a link to an interview with our very own Spimcoot. ( U181927 )

His graphic novel, _Eustace_ should fall under the category of black humor.

Here's the link to the interview. http://tinypencil.com/sj-harris-interview/

I enjoyed both of these. Same subject and certainly not an obvious subject for a laugh.

_Bangistan_ looks quite funny as well. I hope it reaches Netflix. I saved it to my queue anyway. smiley - ok

There are a lot of black comedies in my Netflix viewing history.

Here's a really good one. Based on a true Texas story. (I suddenly have the Talking Heads in my brain.)

If you're not a fan of Jack Black, don't let that keep you from this film. He actually met the real Bernie and got to know him to make this film. Black got a lot of critical acclaim for this.

Hmm... I must have watched that after a night out. I saw it, but I don't remember much about it other than that I saw it.

Maybe I should watch it again. smiley - ok

Comedies about zombies tend to feature black humor

--Zombieland

--Weekend wit Bernie, part 2 [after the Voodoo hex reanimated the title corpse]

--Grindhouse [I enjoyed the scene where the girl with one leg fitted a machine gun to her stump and shot at zombies smiley - biggrin]

Oh yes! Zombies. Of course everyone knows about _Sean of the Dead_. It's one of my faves.

But have you seen _Fido_, staring (in a non speaking role) Billy Connolly?

By the way, you should always eat fried chicken while watching zombie films. smiley - ok
