How can I make an Omelette without breaking any Eggs?

Post 21

Dea.. - call me Mrs B!

The answer is very obviously go to your local takeaway or get your long suffering partner to break those darn eggs...

In my defence, I live with a quantum thinker - but it doesn't get dinner made, does it? smiley - winkeye

“How can I make an Omelette without breaking any Eggs?”

Easysmiley - doh, get someone else to break the Eggs for you, the “I” element in the question will not have been compromised then.

You could try dissolving the shell by leaving it in vinegar overnight.

Wouldn't you have to hard-boil it first? Has anyone tried the vinegar technique on a raw egg?

Not sure. I'm wondering if the membrane would protect the egg.

That depends - in which direction does the membrane move acid - in or out?

If you got the strength of vinegar right, you could just dissolve the shell and neutralise the acid before it attacked the membrane.

... Incidentally,

One duz-one eggs in a paper bag, about to place them on the kitchen counter when bag bottom falls out.
Seven eggs survived. Carpet washed immediately. Later, Ms Stress used carpet shampoo. Pale mark still on carpet. Carpet not wool.

How do I get the mark out?

Prize for most useful answer: five eggs at your door (by sea mail).

Build yourself a time machine, then go back to the point at which you are about to treat the carpet stain (going back to the time before you drop the eggs is too easy). Test and refine cleaning technique on a piece of carpet which isn't visible, e.g. in a corner behind the jardiniere.

Good thinking - but my jardiniere's got a hole in it.

Amy Pawloski, aka 'paper lady'--'Mufflewhump'?!? click here to find out... (ACE)

Clean a jeweler's saw. Pad a vice. Very, very carefully close the vice on the egg. Saw the top off. Pour the innards of your sliced open egg into a bowl. Open the vice. Carefully place the shell somewhere it won't break. Repeat as needed. Proceed as normal. Once the omelette's made, feel free to smash the shellssmiley - winkeye

Hi Ellen, and welcome to h2g2! smiley - dontpanic

And thank you for resurrecting my thread from 2013. Maybe technology has moved on since then, and we'll learn some new ways of solving this conundrum.

Sorry about typo. Not my usual. This phone is getting more and more difficult to use. Or, as my Dad used to say: "a bad workman blames his tools"
