Why does the article with the number 42 not exist on h2g2? Isn't this a contradiction in terms?
I demand an article http://www.h2g2.com/A42 !

Ooh, this is quite an old thread you've unearthed here.
I think it's about time we all went exploring and made a map/archive of h2g2's nooks and crannies, old pages registered by users back in 1999 that were never used, etc.
Or has someone already had that idea?

the old stuff is really interesting.....one way of getting at it is going to you user space and going back to the oldest postings there. then go to the researchers pages who were involved. it's amazing how much the tone of the sote has changed....

Oh man! Some of my old postings from the first few weeks are very embarassing! I remember my first journal entry ended with something like "I am the new Arthur Dent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!".

I've been watching the blobs on <./>Askh2g2</.> and I noticed that we'd got about another 3 weeks of backlog back from the very end of August 2000. And a most productive mine of little gems it has proved to be The strangest bit is the speed of the replies. I've had folk posting back into their old conversations within 15 minutes of me resurrecting them. Just goes to show that no one EVER unsubcribes from their old conversations
I discovered the U2 thing when we got the ability to post links without all that "http/bbc/yadda/yadda" gubbins that had to be tacked on first. There is also a bit of a chat going on if your interested in "Formula 1" racing
Given time, all of the backlog will come back to us, less stuff that now breaks house rules, so I guess its a case of watch this space and keeping digging

Well, I've just found that my journal entries only go back to August 2000 right now... and that's probably a good thing. I used to while away a few mins typing in random low Unums to see what I could find, pre-BBC. A lot of the staff/testers wrote some crazy stuff! Sadly I think most of its gone now. Grr! What about our heritage?!

That wasn't my understanding. Post Rupert, all Edited Guide entries and most Unedited (?) came back along with folks user spaces, less things that broke house rules. Then the intention was that history would come back step by step, so that all threads/journals created from a certain date would reappear.
The trouble is that 14 months of BBC ownership, we've only got got 4 months or so of history back again

Hmm, yeah I think that we will eventually get back our old forum postings, journal entries etc. But as for test pages etc, I can't see any reason for them to stay clogging up the servers. Perhaps we should go and provo- see if we can stimulate an answer from Jim.
