Do you want to do a guide entry, or an Edited Guide entry? There's a difference.

Many people, when starting off, write about their home town. You could also write about somewhere you have been on holidays to, or your favourite food (and how to make it), or something you are interested in, such as a rock band, a sports team, a video game, an author, a TV programme etc.

thanks

whats the difference between an edited guide entry and a guide entry - i presumed an edited guide entry was a guide entry that had been edited (checked by someone else)

Gnomon - time to move on

You can make a guide entry in about 10 minutes. It can have anything you like in it. If you want to make an Edited Guide Entry, it will have conform to the Writing Guidelines, it will have to be checked by people, suggestions for improvement made and acted upon, picked, subedited and presented - the whole process will take at least a month.

I'm not really here

My first entry was about headlice. I'd just caught it off my son (who kept bringing it home from school) for the second time and I had long hair at the time, so I was feeling pretty hacked off about it all. Writing about something that you feel strongly about can be a good idea, because you will want to make sure that you get it right.
