Charity Fundraising

Post 1

I'm not really here

I'd like to do something for a small charity that does need some money (as they all do).

It's probably going to be some sort of walk with Fred and possibly Beauty, but I would be open to any other suggestions that might make people be more inclined to cough up some money.

I can't go off for weeks on a long distance walk, but wouldn't mind stopping overnight somewhere to do a couple of days walking.

Anyone got any amazing ideas?

No Antartic walks, I'm not expecting to raise thousands, but would like some ideas. Maybe a moonlight walk round London or something, although I'd have to find some nice hunky man to come with me if I was walking nighttimes.

Not really suitable for wandering down the road though?

Not sure I can make 3 legs out of myself and two dogs though. Total legs = 10.

I like the idea of the dogs pulling something, but they'd have to have one each as they are rather mismatched.

Fred (the terrier) would love to pull something - if only he wasn't scared of things on wheels. smiley - sadface

Are you able to rope more people in, or is it just you and the doggies?? Something like walking a marathon route or doing x-number of laps round Hyde Park???

I don't play well with others, so want to do something on my own.

I quite like the idea of walking the marathon route, it's a bloody long way though!

It he doesn't like wheels, would he be okay with something similar to skis?

Perhaps you should have a look at this - F35977?thread=5759196 - some weird things scare Fred.

I'd probably be knackered after 6 miles to be honest! I just like the idea!

Sounds like you have a nervous dog! But still - some of those things could scare the best of us.

He is nervous - new things scare the willies out of him. smiley - biggrin Not sure if it's bad breeding or lack of socialisation in his first year before I had him.

Can be a nightmare - recently in his quest to get away from a dog lying down on a pavement he ran out into the road and nearly got run over - only the lead and the quick reflexes of the driver stopped a bit of a disaster. I couldn't get him back because the other bloody dog started following us.

Awww! Maybe he had some bad stuff happen before he came to you. I've heard of people who've got rescue dogs that've been nervous coz of what their last owner did.

Dont know much about London, went there onoce didnt like it much and havent been back so I dont know if you can actually walk the Monopoly board route.

Its something likely to catch in people's minds rather than the distance thing which people always seem to pick.

You could organise a sale of some sort or an even that people have to contribute to get addmission and make more money by selling refreshments. People are much more willing to put their hands in their pockets whent hey are getting a little something in return.

Someone wrote a book about visiting the monopoly route I think.

I was thinking of getting my taxi lience back, and as I can't remember most of the street names I need to revisit them.

I was wondering if people would sponsor Fred and I walking every street in my town. First I have to work out roughly how much walking that is (how many miles), how much I can do in a day and how long it will take me. Then if I need to walk every bit of each street, or just visit part.

If it works out too much walking I'll go back to delivering pizzas for a while. smiley - biggrin

Just had a couple of thoughts too. If you hold an event, ask for "donations" rather than "£x entry" as you won't get taxed for donations.

Also, whatever fundraiser you do, get it giftaided. There are probably sample gift aid forms on the internet. Means the charity can claim back from the government 28p for every pound raised from UK tax payers. And it doesn't cost you or your sponsors anything extra.

If you do it via the justgiving website http://www.justgiving.com/ then it does the giftaid bit automatically for you.

Well either way, it comes in handy. Some charities have their own forms and system for claiming gift aid
