You'll probably know this one Ed - what's the name of the curry/kebab joint on Victoria Rd about 2 junctions down from Alison St. Black frontage, lots of chrome. They do a bloomin good curry and the kitchen's open so you can watch them cooking everything from scratch.

ooh! don't get me wrong about the beggars! i'm talking about the ones who actually come up to you and get in your personal space asking for cigarettes etc..... a mate of mine got approached by one such person a while back while i was at an atm, said friend told him he didnt have any to give him, and the guy just went off on one..... it was quite scary for a couple of seconds till jaky suddenly found himself dealing with 3 blokes rather than one wee-ish guy, and scuttled off....
horror stories aside, as i said, it's all common sense.....

Yeah...but the name temporaily escapes me.
Nearby, on Calder St - Cafe Yadgar.
Another good place is on Maxwell St, just opposite Mohammed Sarwar's C&C - The Ambala Sweet Centre. It's speciality, written on one of those day-glo stars, is 'Heart and Kidney Curry'.
And the best samosas are from the sweet shop on Albert Drive.

It's possible that aggressive beggars are deterred by my physical presence. I'm no wee!

I generally feel safer in Glasgow at night than any other Scottish city. Edinburgh is positively nasty and Dundee is almost suicidal for a bloke to walk in on his own. In Glasgow, there's always a chance that humour will get you out of trouble. Weegies I feel, will probably crack a joke as they relieve you of your wallet
Glasgow wit is legendary. My favourite was when a delivery man was struggling with a big trolley-load of milk for one of the shops at Central Station. It toppled over, sending burst cartons flying everywhere. One passer-by, hurrying en-route to his train remarked as he swiftly side-stepped the mess - "There's no good crying over that lot".

When Laurel and Hardy visited Glasgow, they were met at Central Station by a throng of fans. The whole concourse, and even the platform was so crowded that they couldn't even get off the train. So they were picked up by the crowd and passed over their heads until they were safely deposited on the pavement. At which point they realised that their wallets and watches were missing.
Actually...one place to *seriously* avoid on a Friday night is Mallaig. We stayed there by accident (bad advice from Tourist Info. Arisaig or Morar would have been lovely). It's where all the fisherfolk come in for a drink and a fight.

not even really very nice in daylight either.... 'a bit grim' would sum up mallaig nicely for me.....
dundees not that bad, as long as you stay in the studenty bits...i lived in dundee for 5 years, not a spot of bother, and edinburgh for about 7 years not a spot of bother either.... never really had much trouble in glasgow either though apart from a**hole bouncers who seem to just randomly decide whether or not you can go into the pub to meet your friends, or even sometimes with them......glasgow definately has the worst bouncers i've ever encountered for that sorta behaviour.....
