Why is 'I' capitalized in English

Don't know why, but I like to capitalise it - makes me feel little more important than than the other words. Also I can spot where I am in the sentence without trying too hard.

If it is a British thing, maybe it is to make up for our vague inferioriy complex.smiley - wah

My last name begIns wIth the letter I so I lIke capItalIsIng It anyways. I also use It as my 'InItIals' when I have to use my InItIals so as to say "I" dId thIs, or "I" sIgned this... of course the artIstIc manner I use to wrIte the letter "I" makes It hard to dIfferentIate from a stylIsed letter "R" (my fIrst InItIal) so I cover the bases that way. Anyway, that's one reason I often capItalIse words lIke 'It' and 'Is' when I'm typIng quIckly and even when I notIce them I rarely correct those typos.
