well, to be honest, I'm less hung up about my age than I pretend to be. After all, inside I'm still about 17.

And now I do get taken more seriously.

And I have a more mature approach to my "food thing"

Even so... so many years! Where did they all go?

You're ONLY 40? Well, I made a huge fuss over my 47th birthday a couple of weeks ago because I love my birthdays. The way I see it, being 47 sure beats *not* being 47 (ie - dead) so I am quite happy to have got this far. smiley - smiley

And you probably did not know this but after you turn 40 you are eligible to become a WISE WOMAN. Can't do it before you're 40 because you haven't yet had enough experience. So you see - you can now be a WISE WOMAN. And of course, there are TWO THINGS they say about the WISE WOMAN. ONE - that she is WISE! And TWO - she is a WOMAN!!!!!

Well, I always make a big fuss over my birthday, as you can see by my birthday journal smiley - smiley I love birthdays.

Now, I do believe we were talking about food relationships. . .

I think the times when food has felt 'in its proper place' in my life were when I was very happily busy with things that interested me. Or when I was in love. smiley - loveblush Then food was just food. But usually food does double or triple duty - filling in for other things that are missing.

I am 28 and have very very recently gone from seriously chunky - doctor-nagging-every-visit chunky, to, err, Junoesque. In a stupid hinterland where none of my clothes fit but am still shrinking and don't feel I can justify buying a lot of new stuff that won't fit in a few months time - I expect to get YEARS of wear out of my clothes. My chunkiness was induced partly by eating s**t while at Uni, and partly because I have insulin resitance, which makes even pretty healthy eaters store fat like bears preparing to hibernate. So I left Uni and spent several years eating very healthily (NOT dieting. Diets make me sad) and I couldn't shift the stuff. So I started avoiding sweets and exercising last April and, err, I've shrunk. It's the exercise I'm sure. I still eat like a happy healthy broccoli-obsessed horse.

And I never never ever have to eat 'boiled baby' or grey chips ever ever again, and I don't have to clear my plate.

Part of my rehabilitation, as it were, was learning to cook. I can comfort myself by making stuff rather than eating it - well, i eat it also, but by the time I've spent 40 or 50 minutes carefully preparing it, I've proved I must really like myself or I wouldn't take the trouble, and so can put the spares in the fridge for lunch tomorrow. I love cooking. It makes my flat a real home (and keeps my partner very very happy too).

Speaking of my partner, and men not being on this thread, he's not a slender lad himself, but simply doesn't seem to have a food issue. He likes his food, likes seconds, but never eats for comfort or when he's cross and never gives himself a hard time about it. He's cuddly because he's an idle b***er who never gets off his bottom. But he's only bothered about it when he buys trousers and has to face the reality of his waist size for a few minutes. Envy envy.

Tell you something very odd - I am sitting here feeling guilty about having the heating on just for me despite the fact it's minus 3 out there.

I blame Catholicism big time (she said, sparking a whole 'nother mass argument smiley - bigeyes). What kind of an upbringing leaves a woman feeling she can't even spend her own money on her own gas-bill to be nice and cosy because being comfortable makes you somehow...err....fallen woman...

I almost never put the heating on - unless the Gruesomes say they are cold.

That has the same roots as the eating thing with me: when I was a kid it would be "put another jumper on then" rather than "oh, throw another chair leg on the fire, mother"

my family it is put anotehr jumper on ... however we do always have the heating on in the evening on quite a low setting.

before turning on the heating when my parents are out i always out a jumper on 1st


i need to weight myself ... last time that happend has to be over a year ago ... can't even rember what it was ...
