well seeing as they are thinking of holding events in well known places and giving that in britain we only seem to win at things we've invented until everyone else learns the rules.
So may i suggest drunken fountain diving in trafalgar square.
points are awarded for style, floudering and keeping hold of your kebab!

Wellie wanging. After witnessing the series competitive attitude of the student farmers who indulge in event during the lunch hour I’m sure we could enter a winning team.

Wasn't there a suggestion to introduce ballroom dancing a while back? What with "Come Dancing" back on the telly, and there being no real reason not to because if ICE dancing is a sport then normal dancing must be, I say bring on the sequins and fixed smiles!

HOLD THE CHERRIES: One member of the public at random is selected to play on randomly selected gaming machines. Then competitors from around the globe advise this person how to play on different machines. Whoever advises the player best ie helps them get the most money out of the machine in play during their session is the winner. At time limit of ten minutes gambling time or when the harassed gamer turns round and smacks the adviser in the nouth ends each session.
CHUGGER/POLLSTER SLALOM. Competiors are laden with heavy bags of food and are then sent on a sprint up the high street having to weave in and out of various pavement obstacles. Finishing before the bus leaves/parking time runs out. In the event of tied times the winner is decided by the number of broken eggs in the bags.
SHARK DODGINGnot as exciting as it sounds) Competitors have to complete higher and higher rates of "channel up" changes per hour on a cable or satelite TV system without encountering a programme about sharks.

I like the last one.
One could try this on the UK's Channel 4 and Five and try to avoid programmes about The Nazis and Hitler.

Fell running (only after watching Hercules on BBC 3 and liking the fell runner on it) or maybe Adventure Racing - which is fell running with knobs on . Or just the Hercules competition itself, you could even call it something posh like the dodecathlon Until later...

Like in the film trainspotting.
Now theres another idea for something we could beat the world at.
And as we have a ministry for silly walks why arent they getting in on the act. Probably lack of goverment funding, but if we can have rhythmic gymnastics as a sport why not silly walks
