the thing that disturbs me is how well it's been buried. CNN does mention it in the last sentence of this story:

http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/03/22/sprj.irq.protests/index.html but it's really underreported.

Hi Anhaga,

It's been quite well-reported over here in GB, but figures are a little muddled smiley - winkeye

I reposted this because Kea asked me to, and because until she asked me to, I had failed to notice that the whole subject had been "ed" by the moderators, or some small-minded Thing-monger out there.

I still fail to see why whoever censored my original post failed to recognise that the good people of h2g2, in my experience some of the most intelligent people on the Web, are incapable of reading posts on this site and making up their own minds.

Especially when such as CNN, ITV and Fox News have all the freedom in the world to rumourmonger as they like.

But anyway......

smiley - cheers

While I understand the frustration you feel with the moderation (I've felt it myself) I understand the pragmatic reason for moving the discussion of the bad thing to a single venue: the moderators have limited resources and there are bound to be unlimited objections to posts on this subject. As I understand it, the moderators don't normally moderate unless there is an objection. In this cast they seem to be moderating even unobjectionable posts if they are on a certain subject which is now limited to a single venue. I suspect it has ended up being more trouble than if the policy had never been promolgated. I also suspect that the trouble is largely the result of bad communication of the purpose and workings of the policy. It might well have been better to create a single thread in each community for the discussion. But, it's academic now; the policy is in place.
Back at the beginning I had a few posts yanked and was quite pissed off but then I reread the policy and I realized that my posts weren't being yanked because they weren't allowed. They were yanked out of a desparate desire to keep the whole thing manageable. And really, when you get down to it, most of the posts were getting to just be repetitions of "you're no good" "no, you're no good" "no, you're . . ." And also, when you get down to it, more good will be done marching than sitting at a keyboard madly typing condemnations of the BBC. Get the information out about the big problem; whatever the real or perceived repressions of the BBC on H2G2, they amount to nothing compared to the big repressions out there (one of the biggest being the repression of the American People by that twister of truth CNN.)

And, again, welcome to Chief Lightfoot's place.

skugga (ACE), keeper of shadows, lots of rats, no betta splendens anymore and badly drawn vampires

Thank you both for the above.

And, mind you: abbi normal and me were moderated just for watching TV and telling you being around that *** had started...

Goodness, I already start to moderate my own words!

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

"How is that for rumour-mongering ? Yet WE are accused of potentially upsetting people ?"

I doubt that what you describe there was rumour-mongering. It was more like several different news operations trying to get the information out before each other and not caring too much about the accuracy of the details. That's nothing new in the history of news reporting. It could also be that they wanted to get *some* news of the deaths out but couldn't give accurate figures because the relatives hadn't yet been informed.

In RE: the last sentence of the link...

Usually they let everyone go within 24 hours after they're taken in for disorderly conduct charges. That's why arrests don't make such headlines.

*Fingers crossed that this won't get moderated*

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

Great more moderation of the freedom of speech.
Freedom of speech of course, according to some, being one of the things that Iraque can look foward to once we've killed everyone.
Lets talk about cuddly animals instead, or is that outlawed now also?
It wouldn't be so bad, if the moderation was seen to be fair and even, and accompanied by a simular' expression of both sides of the opinion, on BBC news ' smiley - sadface
