Oh, and the same-sex marriage stuff. Arnie should read about King Canute before he makes statements like that.

Most people think of that when they hear the song. However, they don't want to be hit over the head with it (so to speak).

Okay, let's talk mad cows:
So, we had a cow that had BSE and was identified as such and the cow was isolated and we announced it all to the world and screwed up a major part of one province's economy. All this happened four hundred years ago and the Americans still have their border closed to our cattle. So, now, there's a rumour that the Americans might get off their butts and say to their ranchers "erm. Do you have any objection to us opening the border again?" This despite that they already had the whole talk with the ranchers months ago. So, in a nutshell, Canada is all excited because the U.S. has actually decided to notice the closed border. Of course, noticing it really means going out and finding a reason to keep it closed.
http://www.cbc.ca/cp/world/040223/w0223106.html
Meanwhile, a few months ago, the Americans slaughter a cow that couldn't walk, ground it up and fed it to people in about a dozen U.S. states and a number of foreign countries. Then they discovered it had BSE. Needless to say, the American border was shut to most of the world, largely in horror at the incompetance it took to feed all that meat to so many people before they thought to test it. Now there's this arrogant rumour coming out of a top U.S. Agriculture official that the Mexican and Canadian borders will reopen to American cattle "very soon".
http://www.cbc.ca/cp/world/040224/w0224105.html
So, the U.S. demonstrates criminally negligent incompetance while Canada does everything by the book and protects the world's food supply. And which way are the cattle allowed to travel?

Here's one for the "Stating the obvious headline" file:

Abdullah Khadr says he wasn't the suicide bomber who killed Canadian Cpl. Jamie Murphy in Afghanistan last month."

We ran a story today about Japanese Self-Defense Force troops conducting target practice with live ammunition in Kuwait
How do you do target practice with any other kind of ammo?

"All of a sudden, we see riots, we see protests, we see people clashing. The next thing we know, there is injured or there is dead people."...
"The closest thing to a riot here so far was a peaceful protest rally by a couple of hundred people in the largely gay Castro district Tuesday night....Men held up signs reading "I love my husband. I'm gonna keep him."

From that story, "state's 22,000 registered same-sex couples", Okay, so that is 44,000 votes, plus a whole lot of same-sex couples who aren't registered, plus their families and friends, plus a whole lot of people who simply support the rights of same-sex couples to marry.... I wonder how many votes THAT adds up to?
Enough to consider in the next election? I certainly hope so.

It just seems to me that the right wingers pick the stupidest battles. I mean, unless they want to be perceived as a bunch of neo-Nazis targetting a group in order to scapegoat them, why dig in one's heels on this fight? And, after all the stuff about his father the Nazi, why would Schwarzenegger do this? And, by the same token, why would Bush? Oh, yeah, he doesn't care about being perceived as a neo-Nazi. Really, I don't see what the fight is about. The gay bashing governor and president are making themselves looking bigotted for a principal(?) that will bring no benefit to anyone that I can see.
