The Big Black Mighty Who Sang But Not Too Loud Started conversation Feb 13, 2003
I was going to buy a woman a copy of 'A Love Supreme' for Valentines day, based on the fact that I think cards are crap, and wouldn't properly know what to write in one. This was also based on the existance of the music *on* the disc, not just because the album sleeve's got 'Love' in it... But since the sleeve *has* got 'A Love Supreme' written all over it, on a scale of one to ten, exactly how pretentious would it be to give it to her...

Even if she's not that keen on the song, she'll probably appreciate the gesture for what it is - a man showing his feelings - and most of us go for that in a big way.
A wee suggestion - accompany it with one red rose - unwrapped - no cellophane or other evidence of commercialism - try a florist.
Let us know how it goes!

A CD is such a cool idea! Don't worry about it being too pretentious seeming, as was suggested just accompany it with a single, unwrapped rose (or flower of her choice) and you should be set!

S**t. Someone else told me that it'd be utter crap, so I didn't do it. Using one of my spare copies would be a bit cheap, wouldn't it... BTW, this isn't any woman that I'm in any relationship with.

A spare copy? Well, if she knew it was, then perhaps...but if she didn't I'm sure it's not a problem.
But even if you're not in a relationship, it's still a pretty cool idea. More original than the usual card stuff, certainly.

Humm... I only bought it a couple of weeks ago, and it's mint condition. I know it *is* less than most perfect. I guess I should just never trust Jazz critics; You do know what 'A Love Supreme' is???
Lesson #342439922: Obey gut instinct, and ignore the f**k what anyone else says.
I was also going to give it with a rose; That end I can do...

OK, so I've just been into town, and HMV opens at 9:00.
Now all I've got left to do is embarrass myself in front of everyone that knows me, and it'll be fine!

OK, so I went along with it, and she said Yes...
Woo! Da da daa, da da daa, da da daa,
I think this might be a good time to play 'Ascension', and then have a little sleep...
