Vile Bodies is hilarious.
But it's weird to be reading about the Bright Young Things and their lives of excess after reading about the other end of the social scale in that depressing brick of a book I have just finished.

The Plot Against America by Philip Roth has turned out to be a truly remarkable book. Outstanding. Highly recommended.
I wish Michael Howard could be forced to read it

That's one of the ones on my list, so I am glad it's a good one, Edward.

Just getting into "The Backroom Boys" by Francis Spufford, subtitled the Return of the British Boffin which describes the content and tone rather nicely. The description of the morris dancing rocket scientist was a highlight for me in the first few pages.

finished Vile Bodies.
I think I'll stick with the Adventure of English and then roll onto The Hobbit
(still reading Prince Caspian to the Gruesomes - but we've nearly finished. There will be a few Mrs Pepperpot stories before we go on to the Voyage of the Dawn Treader)

Keep with it Sho
Just finished The Pillars of the Earth (Ken Follett) - don't anyone let the size of the book put you off. Good plots, twists & characters - with a bit of historic influence thrown in. Great!
Just beginning Falling Angels (Tracy Chevalier). Have already read 3 of her other books - enjoyed all.

I enjoyed "The Pillars of the Earth", though it was several years ago that I read it.
I'm currently on a non-fiction kick, alternating between "The Will to Power" still, and "From the Velvets to the Voivods: A Pre-Punk History for a Post-Punk World", "Media Virus" and "Rules for Radicals". All fascinating stuff.
I recall being forced to read the Chronicles of Narnia books as a child: I'm still no fan of C.S. Lewis today. I did read "Till We Ahve Faces" last year, or at least part of it, but quickly lost interest. I have to say the heavy Xtian symbolism can be quite a turnoff.

I've just read "The Great Divorce" by CS Lewis - all his books are amazing! "The great divorce" is actually my favourite book at the moment but if you don't like the Christian stuff I'll warn you that it's v religious... but I love it because I'm religious myself!

I am currently reading The Dynamics of Mass Communications by Joseph Dominick. Yes, it's a textbook for school, but it has some funny parts.

I got 'A Short History of Nearly Everything' by Bill Bryson for Christmas and am now reading it (rather slowly).
So far, I like the style and enjoy the anecdotes about eccentric scientists, but the actual science itself is largely going over my head.

both books are/were really good. they are religious, but they attempt to answer common questians about christianity and as a christaian who is starting to explore her faith more they have been very good for me!

I must make a note, hnicky...
I am reading a book about Louis-Charles, son of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, by Deborah Cadbury. It's fascinating and very sad.

Finished Pullman's Northern Lights last week. It was good, up to a certain point, but I can tell why he is normally a children's writer. I have the next two to read in the coming weeks (though I will read something else in between).
I have started The Curious Incident... and am half way through now. It is very good, easy entertainment, with enough points to make you think as well.

I'll be interested to see what you think of The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass - everyone I know thinks that the 2nd book is the best of the three, but I prefer Northern Lights.
Currently I'm still reading The Adventure of English, and fanfic (Stargate and Atlantis) on the side.
