Is it me, or have people become stupider and more idiotic since the days of the cold war. You call this progression because I don't!!!

It seems to me this site has gone to the pessimists, who like to enjoy the worst in things.

There is a significant amount of bad in the world, firstly, extreme poverty, and other things like wars and killings. But it isn't all bad, in fact, I absolutely love it.

But it is very rare to find something without a trickling of badness, and we seem to focus on that....

Em, Cold War as in "Let's build a space defense system to protect America"?, Cold War as in "Let's fund every right-wing dictatorship in South America to keep out the Communists"?, Cold War as in "Let's send every single person who disagrees with us to Siberia", Cold War as in "let's label every actor a communist"? Cold War as in "let's build a fence from the Baltic to the Black Sea to prevent people talking to each other"?

Em. No. Plenty of idiocy then to go around also. smiley - winkeye

Hm... Well... Hard to say! In a way of course things changed for the better as Woodpigeon has put it so wellsmiley - winkeye Especially in Eastern Europe.
On the other hand lately it feels like many Western democracies are changing for the worst. I mean the "limiting the rights of the individual for security reasons and for the greater good in this changing world" stuff we hear so often lately... smiley - erm

"We're all going to hell in a handcart."
"Things ain't what they used to be."
"This planet is going to the dogs."

etc, etc . . . have probably been said by every generation that has existed since civilisation began.

Which is a very long time to be existing on the 'brink of doom' . . .
