They don't. This is one of those things that was made up and circulated round the internet to see how many people would believe it and quote it.

Teuchter, you're right, supposedly we will eat 8 spiders while we sleep. Imade up my quota in chocolate spiders and had 12 just to be sure!!

disgustable things....and as for the flying ones...okay, I know they're not 'technically' spiders...but nothing that looks suspiciously like a spider has any business being able to fly!

That's the fellows! Don't so much fly as kind of bump into stuff.

What is the point of crane flies? They serve no purpose at all. Apart from scaring people that don't like them They can't even fly in a straight line!

Crane flies (known in Ireland as Daddy-Long-Legses) are there so that there can be baby crane flies.

They're called daddy-long-legs here, too. Useless bloody things. Supposed to have 6 legs, usually end up with rather less.

Crane flies are supposed to be the most poisonest creature on the planet. Each one has enough venom to kill two hundred Elephants, but they're fangs can't pierce our skin. There is only one known fatality by someone who was bitten in the eye!!!

I'm a bit doubtful about that. A friend of my brother's (when he was a toddler) ate one without any obvious side effects.

The poisonous daddy-long-legs and the eating spiders while you sleep are both myths that are exposed by the Spider Myth page:
