I forgot, I actually have 2 new hats, one is a wide brimed green floppy(ish) hat I bought more for Birdwatching, the front flips up in wind if cycle in it! The other is a plain black baseball hat which is great for cycling as protects top of head and shields eyes from sun. Both were only inexpensive and from Sainsbury's, the floppy hat was around £5 and i think the baseball cap was only £2.50.
.
I think as age advances I might be more susceptable to sun so a hat is a good idea.
I use high factor suntan lotion most of time, factor 35, as sunburn happens suprisingly quickly and being forced to stay indoors is not great and makes food shopping, etc difficult

Okay, okay, alrigghhttttt!
.
I know I said I wouldn't buy another charity shop jean jacket as have so many already, BUT I found for £5 a jacket made by 'Made In America' with a great embossing on back of an American Eagle and 'U.S.A' below. I thought it was something applied to jacket first of all but then realised it is an area with a glue patch put on and high pressure applied to form the shape using the denim already on jacket.
I really like the jacket so as it is also in light blue 'washed' denim it is great for me.
.
I happened to look in soft toy box in charity shop as I always do and was shocked to find a small cream and black lamb just like I have been looking for!
When I was a very young child I had a lamb in cream and black as a toy and sadly told my mum to chuck my toys away when she asked if ok (something I really regret). I was really chuffed to find the £1 toy which looks unused. It has a label saying "Made with love and care by Keel toys", which is really sweet, as is the toy lamb!
Ahhhhhhhh!

I have just been talking to my new(old) soft toy lamb, I kid you not! Hey, it is likely the sanest thing I have done all day, so don't knock it....
It is a sweety though and its legs are bent out a bit like a young lamb does when standing, its feet are really detailed like a real lamb too.

Behind my house is a pension (BnB) they also have a pretty good craft gallery , I go in sometimes and today I had a quick peek, for the first time I saw a teapot that I liked, it was very well made light and english looking with a very nice off white breaking to buff/gold glaze, I would like to see more of this potters work.

That sounds interesting Moonraker.
I sometimes see interesting pottery, usually one offs to a degree, but the price is sometimes really expensive and would worry about breaking it so mainly stick to not too expensive paintings by local artists. Paintings are safer as on wall out of harms way, lol!

Today is going to be nice again around 21c so nice and warm but not too hot. I start to flake out around 30c and the day it hit just about 100f several years ago it was like walking in an oven on street here!
The !00f target is newspaper headline stuff here as fairly rare.

You're right - there is a temperature where it becomes 'too hot' for comfort. That news item you are talking about SS was quite frightening. When the temperature becomes hotter than your own body (37) it can be dangerous (for the elderly for instance), and people can die of heatstroke unless they can afford air-conditioning.
Normally it is about 26 - 30 here during the day and goes to about 22 or slightly lower at night. Since I have been here it has been over 35 in the day and about 26 at night. Beautiful, but unusual for the time of year, as it usually gets hotter later in the year. I've taken to drinking iced tea, as they do in the US. I keep a big jug in the fridge.

I enjoy rather weak tea with lemon, chilled or just coldish, when it's hot.
(and of course at all times .... i couldn't find the tongue in cheek smiley so i'll go for instead)

Although my flat doesn't get particularly hot we had a very hot spell a few years ago when I bought 2 electric fans.
The 12inch fan is great but too noisy so use the small 6inch fan which is more a table top fan but when on top of my fire around 6 feet away and pointing directly at me it gives just the right amount of cooling and isn't too noisy.

I would really like to find out about putting photo voltaic solar power panels on my roof. I thing the local government is making noises about grants, and at long last have decreed that all new houses should have solar generators.
Oh and on the topic of climate change - here are some photos of the new storm drains, needed to stop the torrential rains that are now happening from washing the island away.

Note the health and safety, those plastic ribbon fences and the roads are still open to traffic.

yep, I think grants for Solar Panels are pretty essential unless you aren't worried about recouping cost as at moment seem expensive still. Somewhere sunny like where you are helps of course to make use of them, lol!

Well if I can afford some I will have them put on the roof, especially if they are giving grants. I need to have the plumbing upgraded and the electrics too (probably) so it would make sense to have it all done at the same time, then maybe I would install air-con, and not feel guilty.

One thing I like here ,we don't have patched roads , if they dig the road up they will resurface the whole thing properly

Lanzababy - Guide Editor Posted Jun 19, 2009
the roads are generally quite good here, and will be even better when this work is finished.
