Possibly that maybe Katie Melua (sp?) she is British.
I recorded a Christmas song yesterday, can't remember his name. The ITV1 The Morning Programme and the one before sometimes have artists come in and perform Christmas songs, but since I am often out I record whole of the 2 programmes then just edit out any Christmas songs that may be on to make a whole DVD of just Christmas songs which I enjoy for years, it is a little more work than usual, but well worth it to have fairly rare recordings and nice Christmas songs.

The radio station I listen to is just a local South Yorskire one(Hallam).
I always record tapes of christmas songs so daughters can play them while driving in the car.

I most certainly enjoy the Christmas season, for it connects four generations of our family. I must admit the commercial end of it is tacky, but the real connections more than make it for all the trashiness. The memories of all those past Christmases and for those who are among us to share the grace of this season is why I will always keep Christmas. While making out the Christmas cards I must admit a few tears for the names and adresses for those who are no longer here and how quickly children grwo to adults. The blessings of peace, good will, and hope are there for the asking, all one must do is extend it to another.

I think the more trashy side of it can be avoided and make it a more traditional Christmas at same time!
Take decorations for instance, I remember the plainest Christmas tree lights most of all when I was young, a simple large bulb and plain cable, the bulbs are still available and the lights could last for years and become a tradition, rather than latest LCD lights.
Also keeping the same decorations could become a tradition, although not into religeon, I have been looking for a wooden crib scene that I would keep for years.
There is a tendency to keep replacing decorations often these days but keeping things year after year is nice!

I love Christmas again... now I have the Gruesomes and they are really into it.
We start with our Advenzkranz (er... advent wreath, but it's not it's a circular wooden thing with some wooden christmas trees on it, with 4 candle holders, one candle is lit on each Sunday in Advent) and our advent calenders (mine was made by my mum for me when I was 19 and away from home for the first time at Christmas), the gruesomes have father christmasses with a pocket for each day with a sweetie in it, has a rather lovely deluxe chocolate type thing and even the has one with cat treats in.
Then, around now we'll start getting out the decorations, lots are home made by the Gruesomes (we keep them from year to year, in about 5 years there won't be room for furniture) and put them around the place... oh yes, and I have made a wooden tree with fairy lights poking through it, and a snowman for outside the house, plus this year I added a reindeer...
oops, sorry... I love it! all that baking, little parties at the school, evening story time with candles instead of the reading lamp... and maybe it will snow...
But the tree doesn't come out until the Sunday before Christmas Eve -which means it will be out for a long time this year...
great thread

I keep meaning to make some sort of Christmas decoration , perhaps made of wood, that I can use from year to year. I think the idea of it being hand made and unique is quite nice!

Yay, just finished my Christmas clean up for when my 2 best friends come round tonight, their visit always feels like the start of Christmas, and perhaps is better than Christmas day itself!
.
I have been recording Christmas music everyday from TV and come to the conclusion that opera singers singing Carols, etc in a non opera way is the best Christmas Music. Il Divo and Catherine Jenkins have been the very best, followed by G4.
I would like to see and record a Christmas music concert I saw a few years ago by the "Three Tenors", I think I might have it on video, but a DVD recording would be fantastic, it was a well sung Concert of Christmas music, of course, but it was funny too!
.
....and a Merry Christmas to one and all!!

I was just wondering...what is everyone's favorite Christmas TV special?
Christmas chat for those who like Christmas!
STRANGELY STRANGE ( A brain on a spring ) Posted Dec 23, 2006
There was a Christmas special from "The Bill" around 6 years ago that is totally differant to specials they do theses days, it was very Chrismassy, involved lots of snow and a Christmas Elf! It had no real crime and invovled a Russian Barbour Shop group singing carols.
I also loved "Scrooge" from a few years ago with an ex-East Ender, Grant Mitchel, it was a modern day setting but still with ghosts, it contained the imortal line of "We want a traditional Christmas, that TV goes on a 7am and stays on to midnight!", just as "Scrooge" a money lender threw the TV over the balcony of a block of flats.

I know its might sound trite but I still enjoy Its a Wonderful Life and White Christmas.
And what of the the Christmas Dinner? Since my Dad is a bit nostalgic I shall make his favorite German recipes including Lentil Soup with smoked ham. Braised Pork Cops with carrots, savoy cabbage, and prunes. Glazed Beets, and Black Forrest cake for dessert.
