Well normally you just sort of go with the flow while you understand what is going on. In RL D&D this would be an interview at the begainning where the players would ask the Dungeon Master questions but since this isn't in real time I'll probably just answer the questions I want you to ask.

Normally on Forum RPGs of this nature, the Dungeon Master sets the scene. The player gets to decide what they want to do then the Master writes the effect that action has caused.
