Oh, don't mock it - I'm actually bad at phoning, because I am *afraid* of calling people! Go figure

There's one book I own that states quite plainly that the correct title is Mathematics, or Maths for short, and that 'Math ith a Roman Catholic thervithe'.

In Germany, we just say "Mathe", short for "Mathematik" - it's not a plural here!

I'm sorry but that's pedantry of the lowest order. The British-English rule only applied to Guide Entries.

I can be like that too. I don't like phoning companies r anything like that. I've got better at it though.

Magwitch - My name is Mags and I am funky. Posted Oct 4, 2005
I work on the telephone all day and have found it best to
a) have everything to hand eg if you are phoning a company to enquire about something have your query written down with questions
and b) smile. I know that sounds daft but it does actually work. It puts both you and the person you're taliking to in a good mood and makes conversation easier.

Smile? OK, I know it works when singing to subtly alter the pitch/help maintain it, but over the phone?

you'd be suprised. Give it go, go on, I dare you. It really does work. It makes you sound like you know what you're talking about even when you haven't a clue, because it gives your voice a sort of authority almost.

I've just become more confident as I've got older and had to do more of it, that's all.
