actually the universe is made outa 'stuff'
thats the basic, the actually theory we came up with is a lot longer, but fairly simple & makes sense ina weirdy kinda way!

Actually, H waves aren't exactly 21 cm as it depends wether you or they are moving.

Can you elaborate on this St. Jon? As far as I can tell, everything is moving and movement is only relative to other objects which are sometimes referred to as "fixed points" which is extremely misleading if you accept my first point.
Is the point that you are making that the wavelength is dopplered? If so, then I still think I can accept this as a true measurement as I think that anyone who has the ability to make this measurement would also be aware of the doppler effect (an assumption I know, but a fair one I think).

Well maybe, but first they have to decode our language and well 21 cm may be meaningless to them.

I think the wave is scored onto the plaque and that this is 21cm. There shouldn't be any text at all on it.

You can't score a wave because that is just a representation and still wouldn't make sense if they didn't think like us.

I think the deal is that if the alien species doesn't share our understanding of diagramatic representation then we don't want to tell them where we live

I think I agree with this point more than any other made here. Having seen the plaque it made absolutely no sense to me and if I was stranded hundreds of light years away with that as my only map then I would never make it home.

The mistake you are all making about the Pioneer plaque and Voyager recordings is that it's representations and instruction are made based on language, which they are not. The instructions are based purely on mathematics

No you see the thing is mathematics is a language in it's own right and someone who doesn't think like us won't get it. I mean some old civilisations used maths but it would be incredibly difficult to expain to them the concept of the figure 0. Aliens might not get it. Aliens might assume we were sending a verbal message. Aliens might not be able to read and communicate solely by a form of telepathy. Aliens might actually be green.

they r not all little, green or men. but they r fairly good @ blending in & looking & actin like any other crazy person around here!
they dont seem 2 b struggling tooo much with the maths (well, no more (or less!) than the rest of us anyhow!) & they can b a lot more fun than most 'normal' earthlings!
but shhhh! i dint tell u this, ok?

Hi Solomon
I bet you're tickled pink that the Aliens can see what's on the plaque but the moderator won't allow us to see it!
