There is lots of mis-information about cookies on the Internet so I wanted to put some facts down!

Hi Geek Myth...

It appears that there's already an entry in the EG on cookies (A698547). smiley - erm

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

Before submitting an entry to Peer Review it's a good idea to go through this routine each time:

Click on the link which says 'Advanced Search'
Choose the section named 'Search the Guide'
Uncheck the boxes 'Guide Entries' and 'Recommended Guide Entries'
Enter the name of your entry into the search field
Click on 'Search the Guide'

That will show whether or not there is already an edited entry on the subject you've chosen. If there is, but you feel yours is better or adds some worthwhile information to the existing entry, check out update headquarters here A496451

Come to think of it, *don't* uncheck the box 'Recommended Guide Entries'.

seeing your entry, one thing you don't seem to notice is the plain text password and username that some sites store in their cookies, and the simplicity of getting to this.

interestingly, this isn't mentioned in the edited entry either.

It's a good point but down to bad programming practice rather than the dangers of cookies. Actually most passwords on the Internet are passed via plain text unless encrypted. I suppose it's a case of waying up security requirements.

Good point - there are actually a few entries out there (including outside the edited guide). They could do with a bit of consolidation and update though. Will look into it at some point

The GR Manoeuvre --- a posting a day keeps the reaper away

Well... as there is already an Entry on cookies... perhaps this could be moved back to the Entry so it can be worked upon?

I'm sure that makes loads of sense but not quite sure what you mean by that. Should I be moving this somewhere? If so how do I do that?

geek myth, the question was whether this thread should be moved out of the Peer Review forum (where it currently resides) and moved to another location ie: the forum below the entry A823907. You as the author can do that too: there's a 'remove' link in the PeerReview conversation list, next to the line that contains the data about this entry. You may need to use the 'more conversations' button/link to scroll down that page.

There isn't much new info here but anyway, I'm proposing a move to the Update HQ.
