Problem with A936768
Researcher 231637 Started conversation Jun 18, 2003
I went to A936768 (on "Channel 4" comedy), and found and reported a problem:
In my browser (I.E. 6.00) All the program titles are white -- the same colour as the page background. Black titles would be better, and would allow Microsoft victims/customers to read them without highlighting them. I appologise for complaining if this is not fixable from your end.
I was told within seconds to go to your page and report it there, so here I have. (note, this happened in the new "black" colour scheme, I'm not sure about the "turquoise" colour scheme.

hi...
thanks for taking the time to come tell us... we do have a help page A1027171 where we try our best to solve problems [it used to be a thread on the FoLders Arms but the need for the Advice Corner to have its own page became quickly apparent]...
if you don't mind posting your query there, there will be more chances for someone to be able to find a solution... but it's up to you, no problem...
i'm rather surprised you were sent to us tho' as the entry hasn't been written by one of us [tho' we might be able to raise the problem with its author]...
i kinda guess you are in b****l skin which is lethal for the machine used by most of our members/friends so i can't check the page at the moment outside the plain skin as i'm not on a PC right now...
as i hate to not be able to help someone who comes for us for help or advice it might be a good idea after all to cut and paste your query [and my reply as well if you want] on A1027171 ... we have quite a few great problem solvers suscribed to the page... and they do like a good challenge...
it's up to you of course, and if you don't we will still try to find a solution but it might be quicker that way...
you came all this way and i certainly dont want to see it having been for nothing...
i'll be back in a mo' anyway... something i want to check...
so talk soon either on A1027171 or on this thread...

What has happened there is that the author has not used approved GuideML (possibly as a result of misunderstanding it). They have used as a tag for the section titles (as works for the title box above the edit box) instead of or . The really interesting thing is that it works at all in classic goo. This implies it existed in an older version of GuideML (classic goo being the oldest skin). It might even be worth reporting it as a bug to Jim Lynn since it should either be rejected by the parser or translated consistently across skins.

NB It works OK in plain - using a separate divider class of "subjectfont" rather than "headerfont" (used for the title). In classic the same visible divider is used but the font colour differs.

Another interesting thing is that the only reason the main brunel header works is that it has a class definition overriding the colour definition since that was also set to white. Compare:

SPACED
As well as the extra font choice, the reference to the style definition earlier on sets the main header back into red text and saves it from being invisible against the white background:
.poshead {color:#CC3300;}
