Where is everything? I think I need a Re-ACEing!

i think wiki has really come in to it's own as a useful source of information the past couple of years.

Me too and it's usually the first to pop up on any search, unlike h2

Funny entries are still being submitted and picked for the EG, did you read the Watching England entry?

I very rarely look at the entries and I never go into PR

So when you said "it's not fun to read the EGE's anymore, they used to make me laugh, not anymore I'm afraid" in post 77, it's because you don't read any entries any more, not because they aren't funny?

That was the reason I stopped none of the subjects appeal to me

I have to agree with Reefgirl. Used to read the Edited Guide entries, when they were entertaining, but for some reason that stopped, and PR was not a welcoming place... the priority seems too much with the serious entries... and I think any entry can be entertaining if you do it well. But too often entertaining pieces I've seen in the past were butchered by the editing process... thats when I stopped.

I had a funny line slashed from my Jan Ullrich piece, I said that he was a perpetual bridesmaid and they said it wasn't suitable because he'd won the 97 Tour

For instance I'd be surprised if my first (and only completely solo entry - the closest being the Everton entry which was mostly me), would make it through the editorial process now... infact as I understand it it barely made it through in 2002 : A848153

And even that was heavily edited from my original...

I realised fairly early on I didn't have the time / inclination / patience to research a topic sufficently to be able to wax lyrical about it in a guide entry destined for the Edited Guide*. I took part in some community collaborative entries and then took a semi-conscious decision to just enjoy and work in and amongst the community.
At or around that time h2g2 closed down became part of The Beeb and during The Interregnum I devised The Thingite Campaign.

*example: any oft aborted attempt to write an entry on philosophy or philosophers (whom I was studying for my degree) floundered when I came to the realisation that I couldn't explain point a) without first explaining point ai) and point aii) which would all be needed to leap to point b) oh but hang on I need to first get across bi) - and oh forget it. or conversely that *I* didn't understand points a) or b) to be able to write about them in any meaningful way.

I'm still ed off about the way fiction is treated, yes I know there's a place for it in the Post and in Fiction central but it's brushed into the deepest darkest corners of h2 where no-one will find it. I have 27 stories published on ff.net and every one of them has had good reviews, none of the snotty holier-than-thou comments you get here, some of the reviewers in PR could take a few lessons from reviewers there.
