Probably...
I really dispair with this site at times... is it me or are there so many people on here who don't have any imagination?

There is that but there are also people who have NO sense of humour what so ever, there is a definate swing AWAY from fun and chat and more pressure to write for the Guide

Huh, like they're ever going to catch up with wikipedia.

*sigh* We have over 8,000 Edited Entries. Wikipedia have substantially less "featured entries". They have one Featured Entry a day, we have 15 per week. Wouldn't it be more prudent to ask how they're ever going to catch us?
And who's this "they"? You're a member of h2g2, so surely it's WE.

There's been a "Them and Us" feeling developing for a while IMO

Well just who's who? I like the community aspect of the site, but I also like contributing to the EG and don't have a problem with the Mods despite my numerous run ins with them, so I don't really get the mentality.

There are some that don't like the 'Chatroom' element in h2g2 and have hinted that they should go to other places and there are those that think the EG is a waste of time and those that spend all their time writing should get their noses out of the air occasionally and see what's going on out there and then there are those that try to do too much at once and are collecting volunteer badges like other people collect stamps and end up doing more harm than good to the site. And there are those, like me, who think h2g2 has changed to much and not neccessarily for the good who don't bother with the chat, the community or the EG, they just turn up to chat to some old friends.

With due respect Psycorp, Wikipedia has had various tests, and is considered to be equivalent to "proper" encylclopedias. H2G2 in my humble opinion (as well as probably lots of other) has too far to catch up. h2g2 too often overlooks its greatest gift - it community and the communities ability to be creative. This is the greatest crime that the people in control continue to commit.

i'm in a similar situation as your Terran. I check h2g2 about once every 2 months and don't stray far from my conversation list.

"i'm in a similar situation as your Terran. I check h2g2 about once every 2 months and don't stray far from my conversation list."
Which is interesting, because thats the same story I've heard the length and breadth of h2g2... which suggests, that something not going quite right...
Not meaning to scaremonger, but I do feel that this community is for the dogs unless something happens

i agree Terran. i mean, compare now to 3 years ago when me and you were both active loads, there was the terranic army, battles, loads of other active societies, a Post that was a must read each week, an edited guide we cared about and worked for.
i mean, i don't read the edited guide, i read wikipedia, because it's easier to find what i'm after and the information is constantly updated and regulated and more reliable.
the community of h2g2 is what used to be so great, and the edited guide really meant something. now, i dunno. maybe we need an old timers society!

Yeah, or maybe we just need another site. I think the people incharge, or the more influential h2g2 members are on an obsessive mission to make sure the edited guide is the only thing important to h2g2 - which is rediculous particularly as the search engine hardly ever works!

Have you got any proof to back that up? Any examples?

I meant of the crusade against the community. We all know the search engine's up there with chocolate teapots as far as usefulness goes.

I didn't say there was a crusade against the community... I'm saying its like they're not interested in it
