I am hoping for a better winter than last year which was literally a wash out. I have been looking at various reports from across Europe, especially the first snows of Siberia and the Scandinavian countries to see if and when we are likely to get snow. I think that the temperatures are not go down until late November/early December with the first taste of winter weather

The Old Farmer's Almanac predicts colder and wetter conditions than usual for December for the Northeast U.S. march will also be wetter, but I don't know about colder. Next summer is expected to be hotter and drier than usual.

According to many reports the Siberian snow cover is well ahead of schedule and of reports about cold/snow/blocking but not very clear about how it will effect our weather.

Here are two interesting sites:

Pierre de la Mer ~ sometimes slightly worried but never panicking ~

This calls for a repetition of this old anecdote from real life:

"It’s late fall and the Indians on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation in Montana asked their new chief if the coming winter was going to be cold or mild. Since he was a chief in a modern society, he had never been taught the old ways. When he looked at the sky, he couldn’t tell what the winter was going to be like.

Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he told his tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the tribe should collect firewood to be prepared.

But, being a practical leader, after several days, he got an idea.

He got on the phone and called the National Weather Service and asked.

“Is the coming winter going to be cold?”

“It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold,” the meteorologist at the weather service responded.

So the chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more firewood in order to be prepared.

A week later, he called the National Weather Service again. “Does it still look like it is going to be a very cold winter?”

“Yes,” the man at National Weather Service again replied, “it’s going to be a very cold winter.”

The chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect every scrap of firewood they could find. Two weeks later, the chief called the National Weather Service again.

“Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?” “Absolutely,” the man replied. “It’s looking more and more like it is going to be one of the coldest winters we’ve ever seen.”

“How can you be so sure?” the chief asked.

The weatherman replied, “The Indians are collecting a shitload of firewood.”

Thank you for sharing this very amusing anecdote.smiley - laugh

I remember about four or five years ago, local shamans and weather wizards would be asked about the likely of a hot summer, since 2009 we have been getting unbearably hot summers with very high temperatures lasting for at least two weeks or more.

The only sign of any winter weather is one morning of light frost. Here are some rituals that are send to make it snow.

"Mighty Hecate i call upon thee let the snow fall tall , snowed in i will be so mote it be".

"Goddess Hecate hear my plea let the snow come to me" Repeat 3times.

"Pure light ancient white hear the silence feel the night the fire is so delightful and there really is no place to go let it snow let it snow let it snow".

Place a licked spoon underneath your pillow, pointing northwards.

When you go to bed tonight, make sure you wear your pajamas inside-out and back to front.

Dance around a cup of ice.

Leave Ice Cubes On The Porch.

Draw 3 X's, and then colour them blue.

Draw them like this

X

X

Sleep at the other end of your bed

Put a picture of Mary mother of Jesus and a £ note underneath your pillow.

Flush a single ice cube down your toilet and then wait.

Sprinkle shavings of ice cubes over trees and bushes.

Place A White Crayon In Your Freezer.

Run Around Your Table 5 Times.

Stack pennies on your windowsill. Each penny counts for an inch of snow.

Brush you teeth with the opposite hand (harder than it sounds).

Flush a minimum of 6 ice cubes down the toilet (cubes… not crushed ice… another common mistake)

Lord of Winter, Bow-bearing God,
Bring the blanket white to wear
On frozen fields, to slip your skis on!
Send us snowflakes by the thousands,
Send us sweep and whirl and drift,
That we might follow in your foot-tracks
All the way from peak to valley.

We invoke Thee,
Luminous Lady in White,
sweeping mount and vale with falling flakes
as Thy Winter-wand
scatters upon us
a spell of sparkling snow!
We invoke Thee,
Ice Enchantress,
star-studded Goddess of Northern nights;
Thy frosted garments
shimmering in the slumber-still
visions of December dark
as Thou guardest the gateway
to the portals of polar Mysteries.
We invoke Thee,
Crystal Queen,
Crone of cold and Artic climes;
in this season of barren woodlands
and naked branches
upraised to grey-veiled sky,
we invoke Thee
to be here among us!

Sing the “Heikki Lunta” song whilst dancing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bm7oZDtrOSg
