Aren't award cermonies just a chance for publicity, weird outfits, celebs making idiots of themselves, film producers to cash in on every award and nomination, etc?
While it can be great to give an award to celebrate lifetime achievement, best actors, etc, the whole publicity thing's a bit crazy. The Media then picks apart the daft outfits people wear, their lousy drunken acceptance speches, and make fun of the person who gets drunk and streaks.

Movie awards have quite a point, I think. It's something that film-makers can work for. They state a reason for directors, actors and artists to make good movies and not _just_ the idiotic things that are offered most of the time.
With Music Awards it's quite different. Most of the time I don't think even the nominees are the best there was around the past year in their category. But that's maybe just me..

It's great to acknowledge and reward all the talent that's out there, but some of the ceremonies are just insane. The number of times you get reports of drunken fights, indecent outfits, etc.....takes away from the great talent that you're there for.
