Not quite, although nobody's felt the need for a good grump for nearly a year. I had to search through my conversation list yesterday to find a thread that had dropped into that black hole. That hadn't been posted to for over a year, and I was the last person to post back then!

I've been gone seventeen months and when I return hardly anyone's here. It's almost as if h2g2's been abandoned. I mean, I can't talk too much. I only had surgery and computer issues. But what happened? Where has everyone gone?

Almost all the groups have gone quiet. I've tried to get some of them up and talking again, but the people just aren't there. We need people to start finding all the old users and bring them back.

Hey! I'm one of the oldest users, in terms of 'length of service'. I've never been away and I usually post to one of the group threads - if somebody else posts. I also post to them, even if they've been inactive for yonks, just to share my feelings with... whoever, really.

Y'know, 'grumpy smiley' sounds like an oxymoron to me. We need a different name for them.
Er, dammit

I'm going to revive this thread, and this group.

Make sure you do it in time with "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees. Hubby was taught to do CPR in time with "Nellie the Elephant" . Either will do.

Oh, and to resurrect this thread with a grump: I started to study towards a BA (Hons) with the Open University some years ago. At first it was fun. Now it's a grind. I have an assignment to write that has to be submitted by next Monday (28th January 2013). I've done a few notes, about 200 words, and I've got to get a 1500 word essay out of them. I'm finding all sorts of ways to not be working, which is making things worse. I know I'll end up doing the assignment in a rush and it won't be as good as it could have been if I'd actually made myself work on it.
Part of me would like to just give up on the degree, but I don't want to have spent a lot on course fees and have nothing to show for it. The worst of it is that I have to do at least one more course after this. If I count previous courses I did with the OU, I'll be able to just do that one course and then graduate. I don't care about grading (first, 2:1, whatever) as this degree was just to keep me occupied. After that, I think I'll focus on languages. I can do at least two language courses with Rosetta Stone for the cost of one module with the OU - and there are no exams at the end!

You know, I've been on h2g2 for about ten years, and I've only just now noticed the date format on old posts. Why is it in Mmm DD YYYY format? Shouldn't it be in DD Mmm YYYY format?

I've been on h2g2 for 15 years and haven't noticed that. Maybe that's because it's not something that matters that much to me. If I can understand the information given, the format is fine.
Should I have a grump over somebody getting grumpy over something that doesn't seem to matter much? (Excuse the smiley, but I felt I had to. You can have a grump over that, if you like!)

It wasn't so much a grump as an observation. A "WTF?!" moment, really.
I'll grump about something else. I talked with a rep from HP earlier and he took my name and address so I could register my computer and get it repaired. I spelled out my name for him. Later I got an email confirming the repair order. He'd misspelled my name and street name.

OK, I need a grump. Maybe this should be in the 'Screams of rage...' thread, given the cause of the grump, but it's pain that makes me want to scream, not rage or anything else. Anyhow, hears the grump.
I suffer from (with?) trochanteric bursitis. On Friday I went for a walk, as I often do. When I got back, I was tired but otherwise OK. Within a short time my hips had started to hurt - a lot! They still hurt on Saturday and Sunday, despite taking a variety of tablets. Today they seemed OK, but a bit of moving around the house has started them off again. My GP and a rheumatologist have nothing to offer except steroid injections into my hips (painful enough to make me scream, but didn't work) or strong NSAIDs if OTC medication doesn't work. Right now it's all I can do to find a chair comfy enough to spend the rest of the day sitting on.
Oh, and I should be working on an OU assignment (cause for another grump), but the discomfort is making it hard to settle to it.
