I'm in love with the place. Now who is going to say that Camden doesn't rock! Full of great music venues, it's the best place to check out the next big things, has brilliant cafes and restaurants and I buy virtually all my clothers, records and well everything from Camden. Record shops - Music and Video Exchange is the obvious one though there's some corking smaller shops on Inverness St..as for venues - The Monarch, Dublin Castle, Underworld, Dingwalls etc etc.
More later!
Any other Camdenites out there?

Camden's pretty cool, very near where I work (Kentish Town). I love the market (in Camden Lock). I'm not into the style, but cyberdog is always great for a wander around - it's a surreal experience. (see F69059?thread=116961&skip=60&show=20#p1023083).

I know someone who does some gigs around Camden (in Barfly) - his band's called Kandinsky - have you seen them?
Camden
CatherineC Posted Apr 22, 2002
I love the market too and Camden Lock is my favourite as the clothes tend to be good quality ( though I'm not sure I'd wear anything from Cyberdog(!) Plus there's all those little places to eat (!)
I go to the Barfly a lot (it's almost my second home!) though admittedly I haven't seen your friends band. Are they signed? If not tell them to write an article and submit it on our unsigned band's page A732926 ! Maybe they could send in some audio if they have some?

No, they're not signed, they're just a bunch of students really, and I haven't actually seen them, was going to go to their gig but couldn't make it in the end. What is the barfly like as a venue.
Some of the music venues I've been to are:
the twelve bar club
union chapel
Hope and Anchor

Well, the Barfly lives up to a reputation as a sweatbox - it's dark and, depending on how many punters the band pulls in, very sweaty! But the atmosphere can be quite good. Downstairs its just a bar - but quite nice and good jukebox playing indie/rock.(last time i went in they played the breeders)upstairs is the venue itself - it can hold about 200 or so but can be very cramped and unless you get there early you won't be able to see anything! But there's usually a lot of good upcoming bands on...I saw Ash there at a 'secret' (!) gig once .. that was pretty cool

Sounds fun, I'll have to go to a gig there sometime soon. Now the only thing to do will be to try and persuade someone to come with me...
How did you get to find out about this 'secret' gig then? (Or is that a secret too?)

camden rules! my favourite place is inverness street. good food in bar solo, cool sounds in bar vinyl, great reads in mega city comics and a lively atmosphere in the good mixer pub! what more do you want?

Frankie Roberto Posted Apr 23, 2002
I like the noodles in Camden Lock. Cheap and you get loads!
Camden
sthwba Posted Apr 24, 2002
you can also get donuts the size of a brick for a quid!
one of my favourite pubs is the dublin castle on parkway. late night beer, a cool crowd, live bands and the best jukebox in camden!
you can pretty much walk in any direction away from camden tube and find nice places to eat and great pubs.

what do they serve there? it's not like the star wars cantina is it? "you'll be dead!" heh
it can be pretty hectic in camden in the weekend afternoon though. best bet for the market is late morning and food in the late afternoon when the tourists have departed.
one of the best shops is the music exchange shop near the small market by the tube station. great for cheap cd's, videos and rareties etc

Frankie Roberto Posted Apr 24, 2002
Where do you get the doughnuts from? I haven't seen those...
Camden
sthwba Posted Apr 24, 2002
right at the start at the lock, the entrance under the railway
it's where the major noodle sellers start
you get fresh orange juice there aswell
the donuts are homer-style, big, colourful and sweet
"mmm...fattening"

They sound lovely, I'll have to try one next time I'm down there.
By the way, has anyone ever taken the riverboat trip down 'little venice' (from Camden Lock)? I haven't, but it looks really nice...

I love Camden, for the gear, the atmosphere and the loud music.
I've been to the Electric Ballroom on a Saturday night a few times, and the Purple Turtle on a Sunday (Seed). The place rocks, and it's open late.

CatherineC Posted Apr 24, 2002
Saturday nights? Are they boogie nights? You don't happen to go down on Friday's then?
Camden
Mina Posted Apr 24, 2002
Disco and Funk, 70s, 80s that sort of thing on a Saturday. And they sometimes chuck in a bit of current dance music
Friday's is slimelights, which I've heard described as 'goth music', with a bit of techno in an upstairs room.
I like Boney M, Abba, and songs that make you bounce about the dance floor, so I go on Saturday.

One of my goth friends dragged me around Camden once. I remember spending ages waiting for her to try things on in 'Black Rose' (next to Cyberdog). She wanted to buy a coffin-shaped handbag too...
Camden
Mina Posted Apr 24, 2002
I know Black rose well. I bought some bits and pieces in there once. Have you been in the changing rooms? They're fun!
