What sort of thing have you got?

Nothing visible, my fiance is so glad about that!

We've seen things move of their own accord, seemingly. A pen moved across the coffee table on it's own; the antique-looking globe moves around; plants move as if there is a breeze - there isn't. Other things are moved - ornaments, pictures, etc. Sometimes we can hear them moving.

There are two cold spots (presumably the smiley - ghosts) which moved around at will - they never stick to the same route.

There are noises - bangs on the table, tappings on the bookcase.

Doors open by themselves and then close.

I decided to try an experiment the other night and left a tape recording going after we retired to bed. When I listened to the tape the next morning as expected 98% of it was static and white noise, but there was a section where it sounded like someone was scratching the mike (a quite distinctive noise) and then blowing down it!

For all the odd happening in the place, it's not actually creepy or scary. It's oddly comforting to know that we're not alone!

I should have asked, what sort of ghost do you have?

Sounds like a mischievious little thing youve got there ..
theyre not all like that unfortunately!

Ive never seen our ghost (but feel it n thats bad enough),but my son always has, its mostly confined to the one room that i use as little as possible n is most definately not friendly!

Perhaps we're lucky that they are friendly.

We found out their names - Guthgifu (or Godiva in modern spelling, a female) and Sæwine (her husband)and they died over a 1000 years ago.

They seem to be strangely interested in our place. I guess their as curious about our lifestyle which must seem very alien to them. Perhaps that's why they keep moving things and tapping things, or perhaps they are just playful? Couldn't say.

Our neighbour thinks she has what is called an elemental spirit - a ghost that never actually lived. It's a very negative spirit. She's thinking of having it exorcised, which might be the best thing.

Have you considered an exorcism or having a psychic or paraspychologist in to help?

ghosts

Post 9

Serephina

An Elemental wouldnt be that negative.. playful..maybe even darker mischief.. but nothing really bad. Blue candles work very well for cleansing.

As for mine,im a practising witch.. so i probably could deal with it myself.. but i still pretty inexperienced and tend to lack confidence n my abilities , so a friend of mine whos also a witch ad a lot more experienced is gonna have a look at it for me soon.

Have you considered that your guests perhaps used to live where you are n they see you as their guests?

We looked into it. Although there were no buildings on the site previous to the flats (only 40 years old), they apparently worked on the land on that site in the 10th century.

They are buried in the graveyard down the road (the church is over a 1000 years old).

There are several ghosts in the flats, the pub down the road, the tunnel which connects the pub to the church, and a few other places as well.

They chap who lives across the hall from us has his furniture move about by a lady called Isobel who was, apparently (have to use apparently since I can't actually prove any of this) tried and executed as a witch in the 14th century. There used to be a ducking pond in the village which dried up decades ago. Unfortunately Isobel is rather unpleasant.

There's Stephen, who seems to enjoy lurking around the stairs - harmless though. Elizabeth who pops in briefly for a nose before going elsewhere. Milly also pops in for a nose on her way to whether she's going.

Anne Boleyn is supposed to haunt the carpet shop which was built by Henry VIII as a royal apartment for her, or so the local history says.

As far as we can tell Guthgifu and Sæwine come every evening (and leave around dawn) because they like us! I think we're the first people to take any notice of them and talk to them.

It's sounds like it would be safer to let your friend deal with it. I'm sure with time and practice you will grow confident in your abilities and grow stronger with it. smiley - smiley

Anne Bolyean is said to haunt a ridiculous amount of places!..she must be very buisy smiley - erm

Still not got round to cleansing that room fully, though have made a start.

Hi Serephina smiley - smiley

Not just her, Henry VIII gets about a bit too. A smiley - ghost's social diary must be overflowing if they were royalty or important - places they're expected to be seen, etc!

We've discovered, and I can't remember if I've mentioned this before, that we have a portal outside our kitchen window and all the spirits which knock about our village come through it so our flat can sometimes be like Grand Central Station!!

It makes life interesting!

Ooooops couldve caused some confusion there couldnt i..forgetting to mention id changed my username back smiley - doh

Henry the 8th use to have a hunting lodge where i am.

And no ,you definately didnt mention a portal!..smiley - wow..you must get some very interesting visitors!

ghosts

Post 14

Wulfric

Yes we do get some interesting visitors.

We have a Roman soldier called Sullios (3rd century AD), a Prince of Essex called Swæfhere (9th century AD), a couple of local landladies, a witch who was drowned in the 14th century, and alien spirit called Nogpijti (definitely not sure about this one - claims to come from a planet call Cruzos or something!), a rector of the local church from the 17th century, and a few others besides.

In Moulsham (now part of Chelmsford) I believe there was a Roman garrison called Caesaromagus which would explain Sullios. Broomfield (just up the road from me) was once one of the capitols of the East Saxon Kingdom (Essex, Surrey, part of Kent, part of Cambridgeshire, London) which would explain Swæfhere. As for Nogpijti - well, who knows? I suppose if there are aliens, then when they die they must go to the same place human spirits go to. It would make sense. She (Nogpijti)died over 300 years ago at the ripe age of 570'ish. She was a musician.

It's all very odd.

Very odd indeed.. its nice to see
you have such an open mind about it though smiley - smiley

You have to keep an open mind about things, I find. The universe is a startlingly large place and we probably understand less than 1% of it. The same goes for the so-called paranormal. Keeping an open mind is often the wisest thing to do. smiley - smiley

Professor Zane of unreal math’s and irrelevant theories

I have held the believe that most (not all) ghost sightings are background resiances from the past, if an event is strong enough a resonant signal is left which then repeats its self over, lets say that the classic suicide some one jumps from the walls or some such things this leaves such an impact that through time it ripples out, this is the same as with wave forms it is possible to pick up radio waves from WW2 that are still floating around. This dose not explain all forms of ghost. The best way to keep out unwanted spirits is a circle of salt (salt is used as purification) around the area you wish to protect

Interesting!

N youre not totally wrong about the salt either smiley - smiley
