The naming of bikes
Beatrice Started conversation Jul 4, 2007
I could have sworn I posted this already...
How do you name your bike?

I wonder how unusual I am in that mine isn't named?

Mine isn't named either, but my car is called Bob! I've never named my bikes....not sure why!

My car is Betty. (The reg number begins LEZ so she was Lizzie for a while but then my daughter said that Betty was cuter. Betty Bootless, as theere is dam all space in the trunk!)
How did you choose Bob as your car's name?(Aren't cars all female?)
Dai's bike is Brunhilde - big bosomy German.

I have an old Goldwing I call Rozinante as it shares many attributes of Don Quixote and I of the don.
Tha yogabike's name can not be spoken, however it used to be known as "Prince"

I meant that it shares many attributes of Don Quixote's HORSE. Ooops.
It's impossible to recall these posts when you let them go.

well - my old RXS100 used to be called Vera - for fairly obvious reasons.
At which point I realised I was no good at choosing names. I did have one sort of called BEM - but that was more by the missus of the time and not really me.
Hmm, the CB1000'd have to be called something germanic, just to go with the stereotypes I think I did name it several years ago, but then forgot what name I had used!

Mine's named the only thing I could think of that fitted..
Strumpet the Trumpet
I'll not go into the obvious leg positioning jokes and stuff

Let's see...you have a Big One, yes? So how bout Billy (as in Connolly, the legendary Big Yin)

Beatrice - there is no rhyme or reason for my car being called Bob. Nothing about the number plate or anything like that, Bob just seemed to fit. He's yellow too, so even more funny that he has a boys name!
My first car was a classis Mini 30 so she was called Dirty Gertie Mini 30 - that obviously makes more sense!

I am not naming my bike after a big hairy scotsman!
One convention I do go with is that bikes are female. It's just that mine is in the 'east german shot put champion' sector of womanhood.

Famous* female shotputters then -
Astrid Kumbernuss
Jordi Mayoral
Meg Stone
Anything there take your fancy?
*(OK I had to Google....)

I'd be seriously worried if you didn't!
Hmmm, I know a Meg so can't be that or people will make wrong assumptions.
So. Astrid or Jordi I guess. Put to the vote?

I vote Astrid, too. Purely for comedy value, which is of course a major factor in ANY decision...
My lil' baby's called Lily. I was going t call her Belladonna, but when I got it just didn't fit, and the name Lily kept ringing around in my head... I find that my bikes, computers, cameras - all my babies tend to give me their names themselves...

True enough! I agree on the value of comedy in naming stuff
"I was going t call her Belladonna"
Presumably not a case of wanting to name your beloved offspring after a deadly nightshade?
