A Conversation for Talking Point: What do You Dream About?

Does anyone else have dreams about the end of the world? A few nights ago I had a dream that God (I'm an atheist in real life, so I don't know what this means) decided to end the world, and all the angels flew out from Heaven and I flew with them. Then I was back in my own house, waiting for the end to come. Night fell and the stars appeared, but they started to flicker and then vanish, like a celestial power cut. Meteors started to fall, but they looked like huge comets ploughing through the sky. The last thing to happen was a huge flash of light spreading over the landscape, heading East. It drained the colour out of everything, so that it was all a sort of creamy yellow colour.
I enjoyed this dream (which is worrying), but the night afterwards I didn't want to go to sleep in case it happened again. Luckily, I had a harmless dream about being back at school and having Johnny Vegas as our social education teacher...

I had a dream a few years back about the end of the world. There was a large gathering of my extended family (included quite a few children and others who aren't family in real life but were in the dream) at the house I was living in at the time. It was night, we were all gathered in and about the kitchen and loungeroom when sirens suddenly started up, and lights began streaming in the windows. My mother and I ran with some others to the window and looked out at the sky. There were all these aircraft that looked like nothing i'd ever seen that were moving in a manner (sideways, up and down etc) that just wasn't possible with our (human) technology. We knew we were under attack. People were crying, and the children were herded under the kitchen table by the adults, most of whom also huddled under there. They seemed to think that this was an ordinary war, and that the city was under attack - they hadn't seen the aircraft. My mother and I didn't move from the window, we just watched the craft, we knew it was pointless trying to hide, that it was all over and we were all going to die.
This dream worried me for a while, the most striking thing about it for me was the feeling of horror and awe I experienced upon realising that the world was going to end, everyone was going to die, and there was absolutely nothing that I could do about it.

I too have had Armageddon type dreams of varying scenarios, although instead of watching awe struck and waiting for the end, I frantically run around searching for my husband and family in an attempt to protect them. I usually wake up just before the final apocalypse arrives, still not having found my family.
My hubby has just read what I'm about to post and has asked me to say that he in turn dreams he's run away from me and has taken the kids with him!

I had a dream about armageddon once... fairly generic stuff; meteors the size of cars came crashing down all over the place as we were driving around some fieldy-rural area. For some reason I then took on the mysterious ability to fly, and assumed the role of trying to save people. Wasn't that nice of me?

What a guy!
I don't suppose that as well as flying, you were also sporting a cape with a pair of knickers worn over your tights Duff?

I had a really disturbing Armageddon dream. I am an Athiest and a writer in real life. The dream started as a dream about my fantasy career. It started off as one of the best dreams I ever had. It followed a career in writing which spread onto acting and directing untill eventually I was the most famous pop icon in the world. I had ridiculous fortunes of money, I was married to the woman of my dreams and everything seemed perfect. Then suddenly I kept having attempts made on my life by extreme right wing Christian groups from the South and the Bible Belt (you know, moral majority types) who were offended at me for A) Promoting equality for all Races, Religions, Genders and Sexual Preferences and B) For being a famous Athiest who was proud of their beliefs. This continued untill they almost killed my wife. Then I got really angry and verbally assaulted all large Christian organisations on live TV. Shortly afterwards the heads of the last group to attack me were murdered by a group of obsessive fans of mine. I felt really guilty untill the group took out a revenge attack on minority groups. (I think they started by bombing either Gay Club, or an estate or Asylum Seekers.) Then I suddenly stopped caring about them and became feuled by revenge. I started a campaign across the media that claimed that the Christian groups were true evil and must be shut down. This led to extreme violence on both sides untill the problem began to spiral out of control. Eventually the entire western world was split into two large groups and a civil war was predicted. At the end of the dream I was standing on a battlefeild leading my troops (the united minorities) into battle. When I got to the top of the hill, the sky suddenly turned black and flames shot across it. Meteors were falling down everywhere. I looked at the enemy forces, led by all the head Christian leaders of the world and then at mine, led by a bunch of goths and moshers, and realised that this was actually Armageddon and that I am the Antichrist.
That has to be one of the most bizarre (and at least the most self-obsessed) dreams I've ever had. The strange thing was that I wasn't ashamed of being the antichrist because I still thought that I was fighting for freedom. I still found it hard to talk to any of my Christian friends for a while tho.

Have you considered that since you were fighting for friendship and love and the Christians were fighting for repression and hate that you were leading the true followers of Christ against the antichrist usurpers? Just wondering.

For some reason the increasing craziness of that dream made me laugh out loud. I think it was the words "I am the Antichrist" that did it.

"Have you considered that since you were fighting for friendship and love and the Christians were fighting for repression and hate that you were leading the true followers of Christ against the antichrist usurpers?"
I actually did consider this in the dream. In fact I used that to help me justify my actions. Although even if I was wrong, and those insane far-right groups were the true religion, then I'd be happy to be evil. Personally, although not religious, i believe that Christ was a fantastic philosopher and spoke many great truths about freedom, love and equality. It's a shame so many of his followers are happier listening to a bunch of fat millionaire Americans with their own TV shows than the moral basis that their religion was supposedly grounded on. I may be an athiest myself but I am all for religion. In fact in my eyes science is but a religion, although it happens to be my religion. Faith can bring peace of mind an comfort to the individual. However, I despise ORGANISED religion as it takes away the whole point. What used to be true personal faith has been replaced with fascist intimidation and indoctination.
That's my rant over with now. Sorry for digressing away from the point. Yes, dreams!
I had another dream a while ago where I knew that the world was going to be destroyed. I tried to warn everyone that I knew that we had to get to the nearest space center buy a "flight" to one of the off-planet colonies. Everyone just called me insane and laughed at me though. At the very end a giant wall of fire was approaching destroying everything in it's path. I screamed "I told you" to them but they just replied "yeah, so what, It's too late now anyway." moments before the flame reached us.
Oh well, has anyone had any Armageddon dreams involving giant yellow ships that hang in the air in exactly the same way that bricks don't?

Ive had those big planet-y dreams, and its dead depresing. It starts off with me and some friend looking up at the sky,and then someone pointing up at an enormous close range alternative coloured earth (instead of blue and green, its like dark brown and orange) and then the ground we are standing on bursts into flames.
