I think keeping an archive of the Front Pages is enough work as it is. People could just have a look at the date when reading the entries.

Next month I shall remind people to check the date on the Entry before nominating it.

I nominate A26107751 - Prime Numbers. I'm often enthralled by This Sort Of Thing, and the entry illuminates the topic and its history in a very accessible way.

As I've said - official voting will be next edition. This thread is just to make sure we get all the deserving on the shortlist.

I'd like to nominate A26802498 - Capoeira
Reading it made me smile remembering how unfit, ungraceful and uncoordinated I felt the one time I let myself be dragged along to a session by a friend.

Hey Mr B - the h2g2 front page says:
'Vote Now! The polling's begun'

Mu Beta Posted Oct 23, 2007
So it does.
A few crossed wires, methinks. Never mind - I'm still taking nominations.

My Nomination:
A27636528 The Nerd's Guide to Pull-ups.
Because its kind of atypical, topicwise here on hootoo, and a damn good read, and really interesting, and is exactly the sort of guide entry I like to see, even though I shan't be working on my, err, latissimus dorsi anytime soon. And because its a damn good read.

We're a bit behind the times here, and voting for September still.
But I'll make sure I include it in October's shortlist.

Getting ahead of myself. Strange, as I am normally behind.
Umm, no further nominations for last month then. Next I shall probably try to vote last week for an election which is set to occur the year after tomorrow.

Make your mind up. Are we voting or not?

In the NEXT issue of The Post, there will be _voting_ for September's EOTM and a forum to _nominate_ for October. Happy?

Very much so. I shall make sure this is all perfectly clear in the next issue. If you could just run the procedure past me one more time, I'm sure all this confusion will be sorted out in a jiffy
I'll shut up now, and leave the thread to the nominators...

Frontpage Archiver Posted Oct 27, 2007
> "Maybe if that archive site made a clearer distinction it wouldn't be so much of a problem."
That "archive site" (ie actually just a person providing a free public service!) is trying to be as faithful as possible to the h2g2 front pages while still correcting the most outrageous errors (such as broken pictures, disallowed pictures, faulty ALT text on pictures etc etc) and now also tracking down the real location and text of the QOTD from the often incorrect given link.
The main deviation from the originals is limited to having a consistent placing of the image out of the way on the right (although that's now become h2g2 standard too!) and lately also reducing the images in size (since the loss of the smaller format versions for most EG entries) so as not to swamp the page.
> "Ah... so the problem is obviously that old entries have been recycled on the front page, eh?"
...
> "I think keeping an archive of the Front Pages is enough work as it is. People could just have a look at the date when reading the entries."
Indeed. More to the point, if I hadn't included the old items (and I really did give this some considerable thought when the h2g2 Eds started dredging back into its past for lack of new material) I could guarantee that someone somewhere would be complaining about that omission. I already knew this wasn't a winnable situation.
In the end, I chose to include the old ones as listed because the blurb about their entries was the thing which the people who first wanted such a resource had complained of missing when they were away. The old ones have blurb and it's not necessarily the same as before. Meanwhile, there's at least one thread somewhere suggesting people be notified of their repeat outing on the front page. Over which they might again be disappointed if they missed it on the day.
> "Next month I shall remind people to check the date on the Entry before nominating it."
That would be worth a try. Don't expect people to read and act on it in any sort of a consistent manner though.
