I'd go for one you mentioned already - Dracula's Ancestors.
The reference to 'dogging competitive cycling' also induced a double take. Now there's something I wouldn't have thought possible on a bike.

I don't have any to nominate myself, but I'd go with Dracula's Ancestors too. It's incredibly well-researched, engaging from start to finish, and the footnotes show exactly what that particular tag was designed for. I read it and wished I'd written it myself - for me, it's the perfect h2g2 Entry. And it's Malabarista's first solo Entry??
As you imply in the article, Alpha could easily be underrated as it's a science Entry - it's the sort of Entry that would be unreadable in the wrong writer's hands. In this instance, there is an exceptionally good mixture of science and 'general interest', and I think that however much of a scientist you are, it's a bloody good read. The conversational tone keeps you reading, and I like the way it goes full circle at the end.
For me, Dracula's Ancestors has it, but only by a fang

It's hard to decide, because despite all this talking about a lack of good entries, I think there are quite some very good ones to choose from.
I nominate: A Visitor's Guide to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe A26802524
because I just love this sort of entries, and it's extremely well written.

We'll leave actual voting until the next Post issue. This one is just to make sure that everyone has a fair chance at being nominated for votes.

I have a particular fondness for A4186208. Although it's something I've never done, am never likely to do, am never likely to go to a place like that, this entry was still a lot of fun to read!

Do you think it would be worth mentioning that nobody should vote on their own entry? I don't think it's in the article.

Mina, that's an old one from 2005.
This is going to be a problem, isn't it?

Not if there's a date on the Entry.
And I don't see anything wrong with voting for your own. We'll have a one-person, one-vote policy and rely on people's goodwill and honesty. It'll be like the British electoral system. Only with goodwill and honesty.

I wondered about the 'new entry' bit, too. Maybe we can have two sections: one for new entries, and one for the old ones that have been featured in the same month?

That's just complicating matters.
Part of the idea is to encourage new writing for the EG: while we appreciate older entries, I think we're best off focussing on newer stuff.
Don't we still have 'Have You Missed...' in order to catch up on EG classics?

A26560424 How To Extract Your Own DNA
A simple, fun experiment that motivates you to get up and do something. It should be compulsory in all Biology lessons in schools as it encourages you to look at yourself and brings boring old textbooks to life. Who knows, it may be that a young person reads it and is inspired to become a biologist.

Ah... so the problem is obviously that old entries have been recycled on the front page, eh?

I don't think it's a problem, because the date clearly states they're old.

Maybe if that archive site made a clearer distinction it wouldn't be so much of a problem.
