Lettermen ('59) and forward, please. Oh, by the way, I just saw them. They have been playing 150 shows a year since '59. They are fantastic showmen. MD

Well that's a good year to be born!
How about Creedence Cleerwater Revival's "Who'll Stop the Rain?" vs. Stevie's Wonder's "Higher Ground"
Thank you for joining in!
Ooooh! Pick me!
Mediocredane | Keeper of Opposable Thumbs Posted Jan 24, 2002
CCR's Who'll Stop the Rain wins over Stevie Wonder. That is not my favorite CCR song, though, but rules are rules. MD
Ooooh! Pick me!
elwood Posted Jan 25, 2002
It is one of my favorite CCR tunes and my favorite Stevie song. (well maybe "I wish")
Thanks so much for joining in let me know if you want to do another!

Good Monday to you!
Thanks for trying another. How about: Jimi Hendrix - "Purple Haze" vs. Neil Young - "Needle and the Damage Done"
Ooooh! Pick me!Another one!
Mediocredane | Keeper of Opposable Thumbs Posted Feb 1, 2002
Hmmmm. Purple Haze is really the mandatory song for me. I tried to carefully weigh the benefits, but Jimi Hendrix, with such a brutal hard rocking song, has to come in first. . We will have a problem here, as we get towards the finals, that no one song was responsible for reporting the moods and actions of a generation(s), as much as one newspaper story can sum up the same.
Neil Young may appeal more to the geezers, Vietnam vets and such. I am a young fogey, not geezing yet. As I mentioned in another thread, my older siblings were directly affected by the Vietnam war, and I was just too young to understand the meanings of the lyrics, other than the joy of "being cool".

And I thank you again for the opportunity to add to this history lesson.

Round 2 commencing!
How about: Van Halen - "Right here right now" vs. The Pretenders - "Brass in pocket"?
Thanks

You may use me for the third orund, but be warned that I am a die hard pretenders fan. Actually I am a fan of a lot of bands and, but all of them stubborn. I'd play an album until it was paper thin, and got into the 90 minute cassette taping thing in college. I really am a geezer when it comes to good old rock and roll. MD

We have a few more round two songs to sort out yet.
Then I would like very much for you to be one of the 8 friends to
join us in the round of the Sweet Sixteen!

Here we go the Sweet Sixteen match-ups!
"Who'll stop the rain?" by CCR vs. "Bridge over troubled water" by Simon and Garfunkel
Thanks and have a wonderful weekend!

Mediocredane | Keeper of Opposable Thumbs Posted Feb 11, 2002
I'll be faithful to Bridge over troubled water (my selection). Once again, not my very favorite, but, Who'll is also not my favorite CCR:
It always sounded like a take-off on another song to me, but I never decided what.

elwood Posted Feb 11, 2002
What is your favorite CCR?
Now I'll have to go back and listen to "Who'll stop the rain"
and see what it reminds me of.
I guess Harvey seeded "Bridge" too low. In the test run of the tourney it made it quite far.
Thanks for the choice!
Ooooh! Pick me!Another one! NO NO!!
Mediocredane | Keeper of Opposable Thumbs Posted Feb 11, 2002
I re-read my choice, and I was afraid that it would be misunderstood. My selection is/was/will be Bridge over Troubled Waters!!!! This is not a retraction, but a correction.
Sorry for the confusion. (Something tells me it's all happening....)
MD

But I never lost a minute of sleep.... Maybe that is my favorite CCR There are a lot of really good ones. I've been trying to think of the one the rain reminded me of. Someting about the first few bars. Hey what ever happened to big 'ole jet airliner, speaking of first few bars? MD
