I was wondering if I could have a hole in my head please? No-one knows why doctors used to cut holes in peoples heads and I want to find out.

The dubious old-time technique of drilling holes in heads to cure everything from gout to demon-posession has been replaced by the modern technique of trepanation, which uses small, precise drilled holes in carefully chosen spots on the skull to relieve intracranial pressure.
