John Kerry and my little brother
Scandrea Started conversation Sep 4, 2004
My little brother is the luckiest little alive.
Today, as some of you may know, I went with my friend to see John Kerry speak live- I thought it was great, and I was elated to be given a sign to hold, even though we were waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the peanut gallery!
Anyway, I call home later to tell how great it was, and I find out my little brother went to the Kerry rally in Steubenville this afternoon.
He was 10 feet away from the stage.
He was on TV.
He got John Kerry's autograph.
I have no idea how any of this happened, but you can bet I'm going to post it up here as soon as I find out!
My brother got John Kerry's autograph! I'm so proud!

Well, I just got off the phone with him...
He was lucky enough to get one of the seats closer to the stage, and they gave him a sign to hold. Well, after his speech (which was great, by the way) he kind of got pushed to the front. After the Secret Service guys told him not to push anymore (which was kind of difficult, as he was the one being pushed), he held up his sign, and shouted "Mr. Kerry! Mr. Kerry!" He took the sign, autographed it, gave it back, my brother turned around, and promptly realized he needed a change of underwear.
He could fall in a lake and come out dry...

Wow, cool, the closest I can come to something like that is Lady Thatcher came to our town to honour the Falklands Vets, I couldn't go cos I had to babysit my sister

Nice!
And for those who disparage Kerry, check this out http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2004/08/27/notes082704.DTL&nl=fix

Great link, Hussassan!
I'm currently engaged in an argument on another thread with a person who really wouldn't like to see that!

Hi, Hussassan
Thanks for those links. From across the pond it is good to see what most of us have been thinking for a long while expressed so succinctly.
It would have made me laugh if it wasn't so serious. The Americans must have gags, blindfolds and ear plugs much like many of the voters (and non-voters) over here. Much of what was said could apply to his big buddy here, too!
Four more years of the . I do hope not.

Wholeheartedly thirded!
I'd like to talk to the people that support him, just to get a feel for what's going on in their heads. I can't figure out why. To me, he's been the worst president since Nixon!

So, in America not everyone has to vote, right? Is it the same in England?

Not everyone has to vote, but you get what you deserve if you don't.

That's so weird... Over here everyone above the age of 18 has to vote, unless there's some reason you can't, eg, the mentally insane, I belive, don't vote, but aside from REALLY special cases everyone votes. We have an election REALLY soon. Stupid Mark Latham...
