OK- so I've been away from the beagles for a while. I can still get warm fuzzies.
Today, I was applying for a job, so I thought I'd see if one of my internship's webpages had been updated.
It had: http://espo.gso.uri.edu/~surfo/surfolist.html
I'm on it!
Don't know why that made me feel so good, but it did.
Maybe it's because I got the nicest rejection letter on earth today- Newfield doesn't want me to come work for them, but the guy who interviewed me wrote me a nice personal note, saying he enjoyed talking to me and if I was going to be around next fall, he'd like to talk to me again.

Hi Sandrea,
Well done!
It is always nice when one is recognised for the work one is doing!.
Hope you find something congenial soon. You have of course, still go that offer to go to Egypt!
I must go back to your blog - which is where I first found you!!.
Have a good weekend.

More bragging... I'll keep it to this thread.
I gave my first lecture in about nine months today in front of about 100 people. I was really nervous- as most of you know, my first experience with being in charge of a classroom was less than positive. But the prof is actually still a grad student, so he remembered how much it stinks to be thrown in the deep end without swimming lessons like that, and he went over my lecture with me the day before. I prepped for about three hours, made notes, and got enough sleep the night before and enough coffee the morning of. I also developed two activities for the class to illustrate what I was talking about.
Like I said, I was nervous. But halfway through the class, I didn't even need my notes! The activities both went off without a hitch, and I think they got the point across. I could have done better in phrasing some questions I asked the class. The prof said I did well, and one of the students who came up to my office hours told me how much she enjoyed my lecture!

That's a really big step . Just think: You experience the same emotions when standing up in front of a large group of people for the first time as cave-dwellers did all those years back when facing a charging rhinoceros!

Indeed, well done. I've always detested that "being-up-front, centre-stage", and really respect those who can do it well.

Giving a lecture would be very low on my list of 'fun things to do', so I'm glad your one went so well.
