Tonsil Revenge (PG) Started conversation Aug 11, 2004
I had an odd evening last night. When I went to bed I couldn't sleep
for reliving what I had said and done earlier that afternoon.
I heard what I said with perfect clarity and I saw the reactions of
those I were talking to.
Oops.
There were many things I shouldn't have said, mostly because
I didn't leave much room for anyone else to say anything.
Any question I was asked prompted a paragraph of expository excess.
Now, I'm worried about what kind of impression my first exposure to these people will leave.
I get so tired of my memory sometimes.
I get tired of this condition all the time.
Why can't I just have a "normal" conversation?

When you ask yourself that question, what answer do you give?
'I didn't leave much room for anyone else to say anything' - do you know why you do this?
Roy sometimes gives me stick for 'having to answer every question', even his rhetorical questions, and has asked me to be aware of when I do it so that I can leave more spaces. For my part, it's either that I want to be helpful, or I want to show off.
Do either of these ring bells with you, or is there something else operating for you?

I understand about wanting to make a good impression, but is it not better for people to see the real you straight away, rather than try to pretend to be something you're not?

Hi tr
Well, I think I can understand a little. Someone I love has Tourette's (not the same, I know) and basically she lives a choice of letting her outbursts come out or else bottling them up and paying for them later.
If it's any consolation, the detachment that frustrates you is also a conduit for a great mind. I know this isn't the same either, but maybe there are (inverse?) parallels with the shy guy who only comes out when a drink disinhibits him. I know someone like that, too, and he's a bore when sober and a charming clown when drunk. Consequently, his friends are helping him kill himself.
Tough life, innit? The more those neurones fizz, the nearer you come to the threshold of pain.

No, , it's part of the human juke box syndrome that comes with Aspergers.
All you have to do is ask a question or mention a word that I have a mental file on and then stand back, here comes a download of the entire file.
I've finally gotten to the point where I can exchange banalities with people when they say, "How ya' doin?", instead of actually answering that question.
Fortunately, the above situation didn't turn out too badly. I reran into one of the people last night at Shnook's band practice and he seemed to welcome the sight of me and we had a small conversation during which I behaved myself.

Ehh. No.
Looks good on paper, but, ehhh, no.
The real me swears a lot, hates to wear clothes, thinks people in backless shoes should be arrested, and feels that the only sport that should be allowed on television should be female nude volleyball.
The real me also thinks that watered-down or lo-cal, or low carb, or "lite" beer, ales or other swill are a sin against nature and should be banned everywhere except Saudi Arabia.
The real me believes strongly that people who make really bad movies without a clue how bad they are should be forced to run a lap barefoot across popcorn for each person who can't stand their stupid flick.
The real me thinks that prudes should be forced to work in mental hospitals or maternity wards.
The real me thinks that no one should be allowed to enter politics who hasn't given birth or assisted in one.
The real me thinks that celibacy leads to holy wars.
And the real me thinks that people should take hard and long tests before they are allowed to reproduce, drive, own a computer, or make a recording with sampling on it.
Let people see the real me straight away?
Ehh. No.
Some people really need to be shielded from the real me.
Including, sometimes, me.

Not really, Pinniped. I am of two minds.
My brain has an idiot side and a genius side, with very little in between.
And they don't talk to each other, much, either.
I'm not sure what you mean by detachment.
Half the time when I am out and about away from the house, I am 75% busy not doing something that I really want to do, like see what that fabric that person is wearing feels like, or tossing a brick through that dirty window, and stuff like that.
The remainder is used for things like not falling down or not scratching in an inappropriate area while in public.

Your attention to detail and slightly skewed look is a big part of what makes you an interesting writer and person.
I bet your differences encourage more people than you know.
What works so well about the average mold of a person?
And yeah some *are* moldy from never moving out of the dark or creating friction of any kind.
I think many people feel of two minds.
It is just a matter of degrees and balance as to whether you can live sane in that knowledge This is over simplifying a range from conflict to multiple personalities but I believe there is a lot to it. The whole trick is to accept being one complicated mix of contradictions. Like being a brillant idiot if that is the case
Try not to even think of stuffing yourself in the box somebody else made, might as well be a coffin in that case! You are the only one to be OK with both minds(or more) and the only one to integrate them into each hour of the day. Takes far too much energy to suppress one mind. The more you are OK with what rises the more things are OK and entertaining.
The things you like or hate about yourself are rarely the things other people like or hate. A central problem with esteem is mis-identifying what you do best and worst in life. Even with that knowledge it is not so much what you do best or worse but how you take the news!
I think people mostly just want to be comfy with who they are.
People really do not think of others all that much so might as well be yourself at all times. Well I guess *some* scratching and lack of clothing in public could be distracting......
That is my take anyway
*rambled again*
